Title and Summary

Lead Software Engineer - Test Automation/Java About the Role
Do you have 8 plus years of software development in test and automation experience?
We are looking for a Lead SDET to join the Developer Experience team, which owns the Mastercard Developers portal and related tools. This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on designing and implementing automation solutions, shaping the test strategy, and mentoring junior engineers. You will work closely with engineering teams to embed quality throughout the software delivery lifecycle and deliver production-grade automation code. Strong programming skills in Java are mandatory.

What You'll Do
• Lead the design and implementation of end-to-end test automation across APIs, UI, and system integrations
• Build and maintain scalable automation frameworks integrated into CI/CD pipelines
• Promote shift-left testing and improve quality early in the development lifecycle
• Develop automated tests across functional, integration, and non-functional layers
• Introduce modern quality practices such as intelligent test selection, visual testing, and data-driven testing
• Define quality metrics, reporting, and release readiness indicators
• Mentor and support junior engineers in automation standards and best practices
• Collaborate with engineering leads, product owners, and architects to deliver high-quality solutions
• Integrate automated testing into delivery pipelines, ensuring observability and reliability

What You Bring
• Extensive experience in software engineering or test automation with a focus on technical leadership and solution ownership
• Strong programming and software design skills (Java mandatory) to build maintainable automation solutions
• Deep understanding of automated testing across APIs, UI, and distributed systems
• Experience integrating automated testing into modern CI/CD environments
• Ability to mentor engineers and guide teams in implementing best practices
• Solid understanding of quality engineering in large-scale, security-sensitive platforms
• Strong communication and collaboration skills in English

Nice to Have
• Experience with contract testing, performance testing, or testing in production
• Experience in cloud-native or microservices-based environments
• Familiarity with developer platforms or tools for external/internal developer experience
