Title and Summary

Vice President, Data Scientist Overview:
Mastercard is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual for the role of Vice President of Data Science. In this leadership position, you will be responsible for driving the development of data-driven analytical solutions and identifying opportunities to support business and client needs. The successful candidate will lead a team in creating predictive models, behavioral segmentation frameworks, profitability analyses, ad hoc reporting, and data visualizations.

Responsibilities:

Oversee the creation of robust analytical and innovative information solutions, leveraging Mastercard's global databases, assets, and software platforms.
Collaborate across internal partners with stakeholders to identify opportunities related to analytical solutions development, feasibility, and other technical offerings.
Ensure project quality and outcomes, working to ensure client satisfaction with project deliverables and outcomes.
Drive efforts to standardize and automate analytical solutions to enable scaling and enforce function-wide data quality and compliance aligned with broader business standards.
Participate in client presentations and discussions with executive-level stakeholders, serving as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the team.
Prioritize projects that deliver growth and align the function with the business financial strategy.
Oversee team capacity management and resource allocation in partnership with other internal Advisors stakeholders.
Define the roadmap for the data science team, partnering with Product and Engineering to materialize initiatives.
Partner with senior business, product, and engineering leaders to develop strategic goals.
Be a technical leader for the data science team, helping institute best engineering practices and grow the team's technical capabilities.
Ensure data best practices and build a data-driven culture throughout the organization.
Conceive, develop, implement, and continually improve machine learning projects.
Establish a clear vision and mission for the data science department.
Work with cross-functional partners and executives to define and achieve business goals and build data-informed business strategies and roadmaps.
Lead the end-to-end planning and execution of all data analytics and sciences initiatives.
Responsible for the team composition (direct and indirect), including talent acquisition, performance management for a team of direct reports, and training development for the function.

Experiences:
Proven track record designing innovative approaches to client/stakeholder solutions.
Experience leveraging the agile process when developing and delivering products or solutions.
Success managing the solution development pipeline and managing resource distribution appropriately.
Successful track record maintaining client portfolios and external relationships.
Proven ability to optimize resource management (e.g., utilization management, staffing, and capability planning) to drive optimal returns on internal talent.

Qualifications:
10+ years of advanced analytics or data science experience.
5+ years of management experience leading data science teams in financial services, technology, fintech, or financial services.
2+ years of experience in management consulting.
Proven track record of solving ambiguous and complex data problems at scale, strong quantitative modeling skills inclusive of machine learning.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Comfortable presenting to executives and peers, as well as writing complex SQL queries.
Business acumen and the ability to apply data science capabilities to solve practical business problems.
Expert level knowledge in predictive analytics, machine learning, and data mining.
Strong working knowledge of Lean product principles, software development lifecycle, and machine learning life cycle
Ability to implement latest ML research to improve our current algorithms.
Experience and proficiency with Python, machine learning tools (e.g., scikit-learn, spacy, nltk), deep learning (e.g., pytorch, tensorflow), statistical packages (e.g., Scipy), SQL/relational databases (e.g., Oracle) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, graph database), generative ai models, distributed machine learning (spark), Linux and shell scripting.
Experience with cloud computing services such as AWS or Azure ML
Experience integrating data science applications into software products, understanding ML Ops (deployment/scalable infrastructure).
Proven ability to attract, hire, develop, and retain exceptional talent.
A dynamic, forward-thinking leader with a bias toward action, experimentation, and velocity.
Master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, Mathematics, or related quantitative field. PhD preferred. In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role.
