Vice President, Internal Communications – Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa (EEMEA) Overview:Mastercard is a global technology company in the payments industry committed to connecting and powering an inclusive, digital economy that benefits everyone, everywhere. Our Communications team plays a critical role in advancing this mission by shaping perception, fostering culture, and driving engagement across key stakeholders.
We are looking for a dynamic and strategic communications leader to serve as Vice President, Internal Communications for the EEMEA region. This individual will lead employee engagement and internal communications for one of Mastercard's most diverse and fast-growing regions, ensuring that employees are informed, inspired, and connected to our strategy, culture, and purpose.
Role:
Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Communications for EEMEA, the Vice President of Internal Communications will be responsible for designing and delivering impactful internal communications strategies across the region. This includes driving employee awareness and engagement around business priorities, organizational transformation, leadership alignment, and Mastercard's global culture of decency and belonging.
The ideal candidate is a strong storyteller, trusted advisor, and collaborative leader who can build relationships across functions and levels. This is a high-impact role that requires strategic thinking, creativity, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning & Leadership:
•Develop and execute a region-wide internal communications strategy aligned with Mastercard's global and regional business priorities.
•Serve as a senior advisor to regional leaders on internal communications and employee engagement.
•Partner closely with global internal communications, People & Capabilities, business unit and functional leads to ensure alignment and consistency of messaging.
Employee Engagement & Culture Activation:
•Lead the development of communications that reinforce Mastercard's culture, values, Community & Belonging commitments, and business vision.
•Shape and execute integrated campaigns around key initiatives including growth strategy, transformation programs, and leadership visibility.
•Amplify regional and market-level successes to build pride and connection across the employee base.
Executive & Leadership Communications:
•Develop executive communications platforms and content, including town halls, leadership messages, talking points, videos, and internal social media.
•Coach and support regional leaders in delivering authentic and impactful communications.
Channels & Content:
•Drive content strategy for internal platforms including intranet, newsletters, employee platforms, and social tools.
•Lead narrative development and content creation to engage employees across diverse markets and cultures.
•Use data and feedback to optimize communications effectiveness and reach.
Crisis Communications:
•Serve as a core member of Mastercard's regional response team for internal crisis communications.
•Lead the development and delivery of timely, clear, and consistent employee communications during crisis situations, including geopolitical, reputational, operational, or regulatory events.
•Partner with Legal, Risk, Business Continuity, People & Capabilities, and Global Communications to ensure alignment and manage internal response plans.
•Maintain readiness by supporting crisis scenario planning, stakeholder mapping, and message frameworks.
Events:
•Oversee internal event strategy and execution across the region, including all-hands meetings, town halls, senior leadership sessions, employee forums, and regional Advisory Board engagements.
•Partner with business and functional teams to ensure events are strategically aligned, well-produced, and support engagement and business outcomes.
•Develop event narratives, leadership messaging, and post-event communications to maximize impact and reinforce key themes.
Budget & Agency Management:
•Manage agency partners and internal resources as needed to support execution.
•Lead and mentor junior team members and foster a high-performing team culture.
All About You:
•Proven experience in internal communications, employee engagement, or corporate communications, preferably in a multinational environment.
•Strong understanding of the EEMEA region and ability to tailor messaging to diverse audiences.
•Excellent writing, storytelling, and editing skills – able to simplify complexity and create engaging content.
•Trusted partner to senior leaders with experience advising and supporting executive communications.
•Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach and strong project management skills.
•Comfortable operating in a matrixed, fast-paced, and dynamic environment.
•Digital-first mindset and experience leveraging internal digital platforms for communications.
•Passion for people, culture, and purpose-driven storytelling.
