Title and Summary

Vice President, Payroll Overview:

We are seeking a strategic, operational, and execution-focused Vice President, Payroll to lead the delivery of accurate, timely, and compliant payroll across our global workforce of over 38,000+ employees. This global role will oversee payroll governance, compliance, vendor partnerships, and transformation initiatives while fostering operational excellence and enhancing the employee experience. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership capabilities, deep technical payroll expertise, and a collaborative mindset to influence across regions, functions, and levels.

Role:

Payroll Governance & Leadership
Provide strategic direction and governance for the global payroll function, ensuring alignment with business priorities and compliance requirements.
Make key decisions regarding organizational structure, team development, vendor strategy, and operating model.
Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and service level agreements (SLAs) to drive accuracy, timeliness, and efficiency.
Operational Oversight
Ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll for all employees across multiple geographies, in compliance with local laws, tax regulations, and internal policies.
Maintain strong internal controls and lead regular payroll audits to minimize risk and ensure data integrity.
Compliance & Reporting
Lead global payroll reporting requirements and ensure adherence to country-specific tax laws, labor regulations, and statutory requirements.
Partner with Finance, Legal, Tax, and HR Compliance teams to support audits, regulatory filings, and inquiries.
Vendor & Technology Management
Oversee relationships with global and regional payroll vendors, co-lead vendor selection and negotiations, and ensure high service delivery standards.
Collaborate with HR Technology to optimize payroll systems and tools, driving automation and scalability.
Mergers & Acquisitions
Collaborate on due diligence, integration planning, and execution of payroll processes in M&A activity.
Ensure seamless employee experience during transitions while managing risk and maintaining compliance.
Team Leadership & Development
Lead and develop a high-performing global payroll team; foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and service excellence.
Drive talent development through coaching, feedback, and performance management.

All About You:
10+ years of progressive experience in global payroll leadership roles across multiple countries and jurisdictions
Proven experience leading global payroll transformation initiatives, including process improvement, technology implementation, and operating model redesign across complex, multi-country environments.
Deep knowledge of global payroll processes, tax regulations, statutory compliance, and internal controls
Experience managing third-party payroll vendors and implementing global payroll systems
Proven ability to lead teams through complex transformation and change
Experience supporting M&A activities including due diligence and integration
Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, HR, or related field; CPP or similar certification preferred
Deep understanding of global payroll technologies and systems, with hands-on experience implementing and optimizing platforms such as Workday, ADP, or other enterprise payroll solutions across multiple regions.

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. O'Fallon, Missouri: $169,000 - $270,000 USD Purchase, New York: $194,000 - $311,000 USD
