About the Job

General Summary of Position
The Director of Nursing Strategy & Transformation is a change agent. They are a key contributor to the development and execution of the Department of Nursing (DON) Strategic Plan in collaboration with the senior nursing leadership team. The incumbent participates in the planning and execution of short medium and long-term transformational strategies that drives change within the DON and the organization. They maintain and demonstrate current knowledge of change theory process improvement and project management strategies. The incumbent creates a culture of innovation and promotes continuous learning. They build relationships and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to achieve the goals of the DON Strategic Plan. The incumbent promotes a culture consistent with the MWHC mission vision and values. Reports to the Vice President of Nursing Excellence & Organizational Transformation.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Drives Change & Catalyzes Innovation Approaches strategic initiatives with a systems-thinking mindset that recognizes the interconnectedness of the different departments withing the organization and how they function within the larger system Identifies areas of opportunity within the organization that impact patient associate and provider engagement and experience Utilizes contemporary performance improvement methodology to drive transformation across the organization
  • Project Management & Process Improvement Translates strategy into defined tactics programs/projects priorities and timelines Ensures alignment and attainment of both the DON and MWHC strategic goals Maintains a strong understanding of all DON operations and strategic objectives
  • Assists DON senior nursing leadership team with designing project approaches Provides data collection analytical support to DON senior leadership team Defines core processes and maps current states for redesign projects and assists with solution design
  • Collects and analyzes data required for monitoring by Nursing Strategy team Ensures forward momentum of projects toward stated goals Tracks and monitors project work plans including objectives tasks and time frames to ensure deliverables are completed on time
  • Coordinates report production as needed Oversees and participates in interdepartmental work groups as needed in support of strategic initiatives. Participates in the design and delivery of presentations on project status and outcomes to senior nursing leadership team

  • Best Patient Experience Collaborates with key stakeholders to develop strategies to improve the patient experience as evidenced by increases in the organization's HCAHPS scores Collaborates with other MWHC department leaders to optimize support of the DON Supports the integration of the Interdisciplinary Model of Care (IMOC) principles into DON practice Develop and implement strategies to enhance the professional practice environment and model of care delivery
  • Highest Quality & Safety Collaborates with key stakeholders to develop innovative strategies for improving nursing sensitive indicators/outcomes Supports DON Performance Improvement initiatives
  • Market Leader Responsible for maintaining Pathway to Excellence® designation Responsible for achieving and maintaining Magnet® designation Supports efforts to achieve other national designations for the DON Promotes a public image of excellence at the MWHC through marketing and promotion of nursing through professional communication presentations and/or publication and membership on a local/regional or national committee Collaborates with the senior nursing leadership team to establish implement evaluate and communicate strategic objectives for the DON Researches relevant trends and activities in contemporary nursing and works with senior nursing leadership to further define strategy and sustain a competitive advantage in the marketplace.
  • Financial Strength Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to develop and implements strategies to improve patient throughput Collaborates with Human Resources to develop recruitment strategies for the Division of Nursing Develops and monitors metrics to track budget and spending

Minimal Qualifications
Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required
  • Master's degree in Nursing Health Care or Business Administration required

Experience

  • 5-7 years of progressively more responsible job-related experience with at least 2 years in an upper level managerial/administrative nursing position required
  • significant project management and process improvement experience preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the District of Columbia required
  • Certification in area of specialty within 1 Year required
  • Certification in nursing administration by a nationally recognized nursing organization within 1 Year required
  • Project Management Lean Six Sigma or related certification preferred

This position has a hiring range of

USD $120,702.00 - USD $238,222.00 /Yr.
