About the Job
The MedStar Georgetown Cancer Institute at MedStar Washington Hospital Center is seeking a Board-Certified/Board-Eligible Medical Oncologist to provide comprehensive, patient-centered cancer care within a multidisciplinary academic and clinical environment. The candidate will diagnose, treat, and manage patients with solid tumors and/or hematologic malignancies, utilizing evidence-based therapies, clinical trials, and collaborative care models.
This role integrates clinical excellence, academic engagement, research participation, and education, consistent with the mission of MedStar Health and Georgetown University School of Medicine.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
1. Clinical Care
- Provide outpatient and inpatient medical oncology services, including:
- Diagnosis and staging of malignancies
- Development and implementation of individualized treatment plans
- Administration and management of systemic therapies (chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, hormonal therapy)
- Monitor treatment response, manage toxicities, and adjust therapy as clinically indicated
- Deliver compassionate, high-quality care across the continuum, including survivorship and palliative care
- Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and collaborative treatment planning with surgical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, genetics, and supportive care teams
2. Patient-Centered Communication & Advocacy
- Communicate diagnoses, prognoses, and treatment options clearly and empathetically
- Engage patients and families in shared decision-making
- Address psychosocial, cultural, and ethical aspects of cancer care
- Coordinate care transitions and referrals to supportive services (palliative care, social work, nutrition, rehabilitation)
3. Academic & Educational Responsibilities
- Teach and mentor medical students, residents, fellows, and advanced practice providers
- Participate in educational conferences, grand rounds, and continuing medical education activities
- Contribute to the academic mission of Georgetown University School of Medicine as appropriate
4. Research & Clinical Trials
- Participate in clinical research and therapeutic clinical trials sponsored by MedStar Georgetown Cancer Institute and national cooperative groups
- Identify eligible patients for clinical trial enrollment
- Collaborate with research staff to ensure protocol compliance and patient safety
- Scholarly activity encouraged, including publications, presentations, and grant participation (based on academic track)
5. Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to institutional policies, clinical pathways, and national oncology guidelines (e.g., NCCN)
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and performance metrics
- Maintain accurate, timely medical documentation in the electronic health record
- Comply with regulatory, accreditation, and patient safety standards
6. Professional & Institutional Engagement
- Maintain active medical licensure in the District of Columbia
- Maintain board certification and required continuing medical education
- Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and service line development
- Support the mission, values, and strategic goals of MedStar Health and MedStar Georgetown Cancer Institute
Qualifications
Required:
- MD or DO from an accredited medical school
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine residency
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited Hematology/Oncology or Medical Oncology fellowship
- Board-certified or board-eligible in Medical Oncology (or Hematology/Oncology)
- Eligible for medical licensure in Washington, DC
Preferred:
- Interest in serving an under-served patient population
- Experience in an academic or academic-affiliated cancer center
- Interest in clinical research
- Demonstrated commitment to patient-centered, team-based care

USD $308,500.00 - USD $504,107.00 /Yr.
