General Summary of Position
MedStar Health is hiring a Full Time Home Infusion Pharmacy Technician at our Elkridge location. This is a Full Time Monday- Friday opportunity on the Day Shift.
The Home Infusion Pharmacy Technician is responsible for supporting the dispensing and delivery of sterile medications and related supplies for patients receiving infusion therapy in the home setting. Also accountable for purchasing medications and managing home infusion pumps to ensure continuity and safety of care. This role requires exceptional attention to detail and full compliance with all applicable regulatory and safety guidelines. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential for effective coordination with pharmacists nurses patients and caregivers ensuring timely safe and effective therapy.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, dispense sterile IV admixtures including antibiotics, chemotherapy, TPN and other infusion therapies adhering to federal state HIPPA and accreditation guidelines.
- Packages medications accurately following physician orders and pharmacy protocols.
- Performs final product checks of medication, supplies and home pumps for accuracy before pharmacist final verification.
- Maintains complete, organized, and accurate files for all patients relating to coordination of services: case management, nursing services, pharmacy preparation, and delivery and any information/data significant to the overall patient case coordination. Ensure accurate documentation of all compounding dispensing and inventory activities.
- Monitors stock levels of medications, infusion pumps, and supplies; reorder as needed.
- Ensures proper storage conditions for temperature-sensitive medications.
- Coordinates delivery setup and pickup of infusion equipment (e.g. programmable pumps enteral devices).
- Provides basic troubleshooting and maintenance of infusion pumps.
- Educates patients on reordering supplies and proper storage/use of medications.
- Provides excellent internal and external customer service maintaining a service orientation in all interpersonal relations that conveys a positive professional image always.
Minimal Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Completion of a pharmacy technician training program preferred
Experience
- 1-2 years of home infusion experience preferred
- Purchasing, inventory and 340B experience preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- Maryland Pharmacy Technician Registration required upon hire
- CPhT (Certified Pharmacy Technician) National Pharmacy Technician Certification required within 180 Days of employment
- DC DOH Pharmacy Technician Registration within 1 Year of employment preferred
