General Summary of Position
Responsible for the management of the Anatomic Pathology Services in the Department of Pathology including Histopathology (which includes the grossing and accessioning areas) the Morgue, Cytopathology, Medical Photography and the Surgical Pathology secretarial support.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversees all aspects of the technical and administrative operations of the Anatomic Pathology Services. Assures that operational controls are established to assure high quality customer service technical quality cost-effectiveness and productivity/efficiency. Assures that turnaround time and case prioritization requirements are met.
- Develops and implements plans to achieve the defined operational goals/objectives for the area.
- Manages the area's human resources to meet operational goals/objectives. Establishes and monitors performance goals for the teams and provides leadership and support to team members to accomplish defined goals. Eliminates system/process problems and barriers to team performance. Assure effective selection orientation and training of new employees in the areas. Hires evaluates, counsels, trains and fires subordinate staff.
- Maintains laboratory standards in compliance with accreditation regulatory and licensure requirements. Assures compliance with billing requirements of third party payors including Medicare/Medicaid.
- Develops and implements administrative and technical policies and procedures for the Anatomic Pathology Services. Assures compliance with all relevant policies and procedures.
- Manages financial resources. Prepares annual budgets and monitors revenues/ expenditures. Implements effective billing systems and manages the billing functions.
- Performs materials management functions including equipment justification/ selection contract negotiations and inventory/supply management.
- Maintains a comprehensive quality assurance program for the assigned areas.
- Orders supplies for personnel/department as needed or requested. Audits bills and ensures prompt payment.
- Develops and maintains an effective information management system Anatomic Pathology Services.
- Develops and maintains administrative report mechanisms for the areas; meets required deadlines for reports requested by the Director.
- Maintains current knowledge of technical and business developments and communicates relevant information to the work group.
Minimal Qualifications
Education
- Associate's degree in Medical Technology Cytotechnology Histotechnology or equivalent required
- Bachelor's degree preferred
Experience
- 5-7 years (if Bachelor degree or more) of progressively more responsible job-related experience with clinical familiarity of Histopathology or Cytopathology required
- 10+ years (if less than a Bachelor degree) of progressively more responsible job-related experience with clinical familiarity of Histopathology or Cytopathology required
- Clinical familiarity of both Histopathology and Cytopathology preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- ASCP - American Society of Clinical Pathologist as a histotechnologist, medical technologist or cytotechnologist required

USD $89,065.00 - USD $162,801.00 /Yr.
