General Summary of Position
The Pharmacy Technician MedAC supports pharmacists in a distribution setting by performing a variety of tasks related to medication preparation and inventory management. Responsibilities include pulling and filling medications in prepared dosage forms, including oral solids, liquids, nebulizers, and injectables. The technician receives, stores, and organizes incoming medications and supplies while maintaining accurate inventory records.
This role also involves processing both electronic and paper records of medication orders, calculating charges, and entering data into computer systems. Maintaining a clean and organized work environment, including proper cleaning of equipment, is essential.
The Pharmacy Technician collaborates closely with healthcare facilities, medication repackagers, and drug wholesalers to ensure the timely and uninterrupted delivery of medications. Success in this role requires accuracy, efficiency, and the ability to complete daily assignments within a cooperative, team-oriented environment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Accepts and implements general instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new assignments.
- Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
- Ensures adequate inventory including placing orders to repackager and wholesaler as requested.
- Organizes medications and delivery containers for expedited verification by a pharmacist.
- Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Prepares and secures medication totes for delivery by the designated timeframe; meets fill and delivery timeframes.
- Pulls medication fill list; expedites the filling of medications and ensures labeling accuracy.
- Receives medication order from repackeger and wholesaler verify packing slip to what was received noting any discrepancies and stock into pick station or back-up inventory location.
- Restocks picking stations and back-up inventory locations and verifies inventory counts.
- Sorts medications by designated delivery area and ensures labeling accuracy.
- Verifies dispensing counts and completes documentation for accurate billing/invoicing in the computer.
- Works on assignments that are semi-routine with the ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice as required.
Minimal Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required
Experience
- 1-2 years pharmacy experience required
Licenses and Certifications
- Registered technician in Maryland and nationally accredited certification (e.g. PTCB) required within 6 months of hire.
This position has a hiring range of
USD $19.55 - USD $34.25 /Hr.
