MedStar Health is looking for a Strength & Conditioning Specialist to join our team with MedStar Health SportsPerformance. This position will support strategic growth in the Washington, D.C. and Virginia markets.  

 

In this role, you will teach safe and effective lifting techniques and proper spotting procedures, select exercises and instruct athletes in execution of exercises. You will execute athletic development programs consisting of speed, strength, power, coordination and flexibility. You will provide nutrition counseling, design long-term training programs for athletes, collaborate with coaches to develop customized training protocols, and assist in management of strength and conditioning facility.

Primary Duties: 

1. Consistently follows safe work practices during all job-related activities which includes following recommended use guidelines for patient treatment related equipment. In accordance with our service standards, holds safety first for all patients, visitors and team members, and patient and staff interactions. Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations. Assists in maintaining a clean training center and equipment.

2. Assists leadership in cultivating and expanding relationships with area high schools and club programs to increase the volume of athlete participation. Attends events with leaders in the local business and athletics community. Develops and provides support with local charities. Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.

3. Schedules clients timely for appointments and is efficient and productive utilizing time management skills effectively.

4. Distributes marketing materials and creates social media content to increase awareness of the program throughout the community. Answers phone inquiries, email inquiries, scheduling and billing.

5. Enables athletes to perform to their physical potential in their sport through the development and management of individual and group weight, strength and fitness training programs; develops programs by evaluating current physical conditioning, having a knowledge of the various sports and associated exercises, tailoring strength programs for specific needs, demonstrating proper performance of exercises, correcting mistakes; manages programs by monitoring progress and providing an assessment of development. Obtains and documents pertinent medical history, performance of specific assessments, initial status, progress, goals and results. Reduces the likelihood of sports-related injuries or the aggravation of such injuries during practice sessions and scheduled contests by being knowledgeable of the injuries sustained in the sport and proper prevention methods, directing appropriate pre-training session and pre-contest preparations and warm ups, and working with qualified sports medicine personnel or athletic trainers during all training sessions and contest.Teaches clients through instruction and demonstration utilizing movement mechanics, sport specific exercise modalities, and the individual client's physical capabilities. 

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's degree in exercise science or related field.  
  • CPR certification (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross required within 90 days of employment. 
  • CSCS Certification by the National Strength and Conditioning Association, or SCCC Certification by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association or Health Fitness Instructor by the American College of Sports Medicine. 
  • 1-2 years of strength and conditioning experience preferred. 
  • Master's degree preferred. 

This position has a hiring range of

USD $22.48 - USD $39.75 /Hr.
