MedStar Health is looking for a PRN Recreation Therapist to join our team at MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital! 

Scheduling will include consistent adaptive sports programming on Sundays and/or Tuesdays, and additional inpatient help based upon census. 

You will provide patient care duties as related to recreational therapy following accreditation guidelines, licensing regulations, professional code of ethics, and standards of practice to include: evaluation, re-evaluation, treatment planning & implementation, and discharge planning. You will assure compliance with all legal & accreditation standards. For this role, we are open to an entry-level clinician working toward completion of basic core competencies within Therapeutic Recreation and adaptive sports programs and services.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
• Provides effective and efficient evidence-based care. Provides individualized patient care duties as it relates to therapeutic recreation following accreditation guidelines professional code of ethics and standards of practice to include: evaluation/ re-evaluation treatment planning patient/caregiver education and discharge planning. Demonstrates sound clinical reasoning during patient care to maximize effective and safe outcomes.
• Entry Level Clinician working toward completion of basic core competencies.
• Demonstrates organizational skills in facilitation and management of quality sports programming in community adaptive sports and fitness program regarding safety budgeting maintaining of equipment appropriate paperwork volunteers and providing logistical support.
• Follows MNRH documentation policy to maintain accurate and timely documentation for patient care to include assessment clinical interventions and discharge recommendations. Keeps accurate records for both inpatient and community-based programs and services.
• Demonstrates effective time management and meets productivity expectations. Maintains accurate schedules for all patients and professional activities.
• Participates in developmental activities for continued professional growth. Takes initiative in pursuing and directing continuing education for professional growth and competencies. Participates in development and implementation of goals and objectives for the program area as delegated by Clinical Supervisor or Management.
• Participates in inservices and continuing education programs. Disseminates continuing education information to staff and students. Participates in ongoing clinical and administrative system development data collection and process improvement to assure optimal functioning of service area.
• Participates in peer review program evaluation and process improvement activities on a regular basis and for special projects. Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings.

Minimal Qualifications
Education

• Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation/Recreation Therapy required.

Experience

• 14-week therapeutic recreation internship required, preferably in a clinical setting.
• 1-2 years clinical experience in rehabilitation preferred, new graduates considered.

Licenses and Certifications

• Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification required.
• Valid State Driver's License in good standing and a safe driving record required.
