General Summary of Position
Responsible and accountable for the provision of quality patient care and customer services. Acts as a role model, coach, and lead to ensure the team's commitment and success in improving patient outcomes. Leads, coaches, and develops staff while also providing direct patient care. Collaborates regularly and effectively with Clinical Practice Manager to improve patient care and operational flow. Independently assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the care of patients in the Wound Healing Center. Meets established Wound Healing Center standards of nursing practice in the management of assigned patients from admission to discharge. Assists physicians with the development and implementation of wound treatment plans and participates in performance improvement review activities.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Promotes harmonious relationship and favorable attitudes amongst the team. Counsels associates effectively and collaborates with appropriate manager/director to utilize the disciplinary process.
  • Provides guidance and direction to team related to practice changes that will improve quality of service and patient care.
  • Maintains schedules, coordinates coverage, and ensures that staffing is appropriate for scheduled patient volumes.
  • Interviews prospective associates and makes recommendations for hiring.
  • Demonstrates effectiveness in making independent decisions when necessary and in providing/obtaining assistance and consultation when appropriate.
  • Demonstrates the ability to competently care for Wound Center patients, serving as a role model for team collaboration and quality patient care.
  • Tracks staff competency requirements, coordinating training and testing where appropriate.
  • Initiates nursing assessment of patient's condition. Communicates findings to the assigned care provider. Recognizes and assesses changes in patient's body systems and communicates accordingly. Completes, and maintains confidentiality of, all patient current and historical medical information pertinent to the patient's wound care. Accurately observes and records wound metrics and status. Collaborates with provider in the development and implementation of wound treatment plans.
  • Implements the physician's orders as indicated by the patient's treatment plan. Coordinates activities with other disciplines (rehab, nutrition, diabetic education, home health, DME, nursing homes and other ancillary services) to meet unique patient needs.
  • Triages telephone calls and assists with scheduling as needed.
  • Provides education to patients including: explanation of condition, care of wounds, application of dressings, provider instructions, orders for necessary testing, health maintenance, follow-up care instructions/appointments, etc.
  • Investigates and follows through on customer complaints and incidents and appropriately communicates to management.
  • Completes necessary paperwork. Compiles reports as requested.
  • Stocks and maintains supplies according to par values.
  • Coordinates equipment/center repairs necessary for efficient patient care.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Associate's degree from an accredited school of Nursing required and
    • Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred

    Experience

    • 3-4 years 4 years medical-surgical nursing experience; demonstrated leadership and/or supervisory experience necessary required and
    • Wound care experience preferred

    Licenses and Certifications

    • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Valid RN license in the State of Maryland. required and
    • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required and
    • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Verbal and written communication skills.
    • Basic computer skills required.
    • Demonstrated leadership and precept abilities.


    This position has a hiring range of $41.98 - $75.62
