MedStar Health is looking for a Director of Professional & Elite Sports Therapy to join our team at MedStar Sports Medicine in Greater Baltimore!  

The Director of Professional and Elite Sports Therapy and Performance Enhancement for MedStar Sports Medicine in Greater Baltimore is a tested physical therapist who possesses proven expertise in sports therapy and performance enhancement services. In addition, he/she exhibits exemplary leadership skills and can improve the quality of sports medicine services across Greater Baltimore, and throughout MedStar Health, via the provision of professional and elite athlete sports therapy services and the development of high-level performance enhancement services for the sports community.

Primary Duties: 

  • Provides evaluation/assessment services including review of pertinent historical information, performance of specific assessments, and determination of recommendations and documentation of results. Explains findings and plan of care to clients, family members, etc. Assists in the business design and development. Develops and implements clinical programs that are cost effective, and value added. Works closely with Business Development to market the programs and services to targeted referrers. Participates in the development and implementation of performance enhancement, injury screening and related community outreach programs related to sports medicine. Participates with teams to facilitate the development of sports medicine-based courses and other learning opportunities. 

  • Assists in developing, revising, or reviewing treatment protocols, algorithms, or patient flow models in sports medicine. Collaborate effectively with key MedStar Sports Medicine physician groups, therapists, athletic trainers, and other professionals in this function. Participates in MedStar Sports Medicine initiatives such as concussion management and treatment, injury screening and ACL risk reduction and return to play. Participates in meetings, serves on committees, and represents MedStar Sports Medicine and MedStar National Rehabilitation Network in community outreach efforts as we expand our presence.  

  • Participates in mentorship, shadowing, and education of MedStar NRN therapists for Sports Medicine across our Network. Assists with the development, implementation and maintenance of the Sports PT residency program and its growth. Completes appropriate discharge planning and follow up care. Accurately and timely documents and charges for patient care activities considering our evolving health care environment, painting a clear picture of the patients' course of care including focused initial evaluation/plan of care that establishes baseline and goals, legible encounter notes, interim progress summaries and discharge evaluations.  

  • Promotes excellent customer experience and great access to care through flexibility and adaptability. Participates in team removal of barriers to access, understands CSI measurement data of the sites and actively engages in the Access MedStar NRH initiatives. Independently manages the daily operations with a consistent focus on great access to care. This includes assuring appropriate staffing, controlling expenses, managing patient schedules, and efficient processes in place to support the team members and customers. Meets or exceeds productivity, charging and financial targets for the clinics. 

  • Coordinates selection, coaching, orientation, mentoring and goal setting to promote improved team member performance and quality care enhancement. Develops performance standards, evaluates performance, evaluates performance, and conducts performance management, including managing poor performers effectively and recognizing top performers. Conducts performance appraisals timely. 

 

Qualifications:  

  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited College/University with a degree in Physical Therapy. 

  • 5-7 years' experience in successfully treating professional and elite athletes in a prior setting. 

  • Program and staff development experience. 

  • DC/Maryland licensure as deemed appropriate. 

  • 8-10 years' experience in an outpatient clinical setting preferred. 

  • Certified and licensed athletic trainer preferred.
