General Summary of Position
Assists in meeting the patient care, education and research needs of all library users by circulating and cataloging library materials, and processing interlibrary loans


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Circulates library materials, including books, journals, periodicals, audiovisual hardware and software. Registers new library users and schedules the use of audio-visual equipment.
  • Checks in journals, files loose-leaf updates, and requests missing journals and journals stored in warehouse. Prepares journals for binding. Checks quality and accuracy of journals that have been bound.
  • Receives and processes interlibrary loan requests, for WHC library users and other libraries, within required deadline. Identifies where items are located using computer database, makes copies of requested materials in compliance with U.S. copyright laws, prepares bills for borrowing libraries and maintains records of incoming and outgoing loans.
  • Answers questions by telephone or in person regarding the library collection, services and policies. When necessary, refers questions to the appropriate personnel.
  • Assists library users in identifying and locating library material and in using library resources and equipment ( microfilm readers, photocopiers, computer databases, Internet, etc.).
  • Shelves library materials, and ensures that all materials are placed in the correct location and in the proper order.
  • Provides library with current bibliographic records of all items added to WHC library collection using OCLC database and services.
  • Opens and/or closes the library at scheduled times and in accordance with standard protocols.
  • Notifies library users of overdue materials or equipment by mail or by phone.
  • Reports library usage statistics ( number of photocopies made, items circulated, interlibrary loans requested, etc.) to the Director.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on audio-visual equipment. May be required to video tape teleconferences.
  • May be required to perform light clerical duties (filing, typing, photocopying ), prepare bills, requisitions, supply order forms, and deposit checks and cash receipts.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • High School Diploma or GED required
    • May require up to l year of technical or other specialized training.

    Experience

    • 6 to 12 months experience required

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Requires the ability to read and write; and knowledge of grammar, and arithmetic including fractions and decimals.
    • May require the use of standard office/medical equipment (i.e., typewriter, personal computer, data terminal, on-line printer, calculator, telephone, facsimile, copier, sterilizing equipment, blood pressure cuff, or tables); the preparation, comparison or checking of reports, records and related data; and basic use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings and knowledge of their application.


    This position has a hiring range of $18.791 - $27.933
