General Summary of Position
Oversees, directs, and performs advanced analytical and technical support for the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of Enterprise Analytics applications and processes to support strategic clinical, operational, research, financial, population health, and other system-wide initiatives. Responsible for managing and meeting customer requirements and ensuring department deliverables derive valuable insights for gaining organizational efficiencies and improvement in overall performance. Continuously develops a deep understanding of the systems, processes, data, and industry standards that support the business of healthcare to support the transformation of MedStar's data-driven culture.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages complex data analysis, development of advanced analytical applications and supporting work flows, and application requirements using the MedStar Analytics Platform integrating data from clinical, operational, financial, population health, and other systems across all entities of MedStar Health.
  • Creates, manages, and consults on design, development, standards, documentation, testing, analyses, modification, production and ongoing improvement of complex analytics applications. Executes complex queries for data exploration and deriving data-driven insights. Ensures outputs are simple, effective, replicable, and meet user needs.
  • Facilitates collaboration with clinical, technical and non-technical associates throughout all levels of the organization to understand data needs and design effective applications to transform analytical and decision making capabilities at MedStar.
  • Establishes, implements, and monitors data management and auditing processes.
  • Learns and understands available internal and external data sources and underlying systems for appropriate integration and maximum capability of Enterprise Analytics capabilities.
  • Manages day-to-day operational activities of Enterprise Analytics project teams developing pilot applications, implementing pilot applications system-wide, and upgrading existing applications. Responsible for work productivity, quality, compliance with standards, and continuity of operations for assigned project staff.
  • Selects, orients, and assigns department staff. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and conducts performance management planning. Initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions. Maintains ongoing communication with subordinates to review programs, provides feedback, discusses new developments, and exchanges information.
  • Creates and conducts training sessions for internal department staff and external customers on applications, technical techniques, standards, best practices, and other, as appropriate.
  • Provides customer support including coaching users on how to use applications, how to interpret actionable outputs, and coordinating between vendors, Information Services, and other MedStar experts for troubleshooting.
  • Reviews application designs, architecture and coding techniques of other Enterprise Analytics project teams and provides feedback as appropriates. Reviews for appropriateness of design and source systems, meaningful and accurate outputs, and adherence to standards. 11) Stays abreast of industry and MedStar standards, available resources, emerging technologies, and best practices with the intent of applying to current and future projects.
  • Maintains advanced proficiency in industry standard terminology, data analytics and technical applications in order to serve as a transformational resource for MedStar Enterprise Analytics customers.
  • Contributes and adheres to MedStar Enterprise Analytics and Information Services security, architecture, database, and other system policies and procedures, standards and schedules.
  • Active member of MedStar Analytics and Technical communities for collaboration of best practices, lessons learned, and knowledge-sharing.
  • Serves as a primary contact for Enterprise Analytics and leads multiple projects including developing project documents, developing tasks and timelines, providing periodic updates, and coordinating project related activities and communications.
  • Develops and contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Ensures compliance with hospital/facility policies and procedures and governmental/accreditation regulations.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree in health science, statistics, engineering, or Information Systems required or
    • other related degree required or
    • equivalent work experiences such that the objectives of the position are equaled. required

    Experience

    • 5-7 years Related experience in health care analytics or application development including database administration required and
    • 1-2 years 2 years experience supervisory role with direct reports required

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Knowledge of healthcare operations, statistics, and data modeling.
    • Strong business knowledge and analytical ability to translate operational problems into technical solutions to produce meaningful deliverables using Business Intelligence tools.
    • Ability to independently learn new software tools quickly.
    • Possesses five core technical competencies; data query (SQL), data movement (ETL), data analysis, data modeling and data visualizations.
    • Strong understanding of data warehousing and analytic principles.
    • Self-motivated; comfortable working independently and in a team environment.
    • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills to effectively interface with technical, non-technical, and leadership customers.
    • Competent in basic project management principles.
    • Advanced computer skills are required.
    • Knowledge of HIPAA compliance policies.


    This position has a hiring range of $111,779 - $212,513
