General Summary of Position

Schedule: Monday 7:00am -3:30pm; Tuesday - Friday 8:00am -4:30pm

Required weekend and evening availability for community events on average 1 time per month. Main Driver for South Baltimore location will also be required to cross cover for the North Baltimore location as needed. 

The Mobile Health Center (MHC) Patient Access Coordinator is responsible for the safe transportation of the MHC vehicle to and from community partner sites. Coordinates the proper running and maintenance of the vehicle serving the communities in the service areas of the Care Transformation within the Baltimore Region. Collaborates with other team members and entities to help facilitate timely and appropriate access to care to patients in underserved areas. Serves in a multi-faceted capacity of driver and patient access associate to communicate with patients, families, providers, other team members, quality review and insurance companies to obtain the proper information and insurance verification to assure quality patient care, payment of accounts, and access to higher level of care beyond the MHC. Registers and assists patients with completing the financial assistance process and other necessary protocols/processes. Provides other registration, clerical, billing, administrative, and patient access support as required.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Drives the Mobile Health Center vehicle safely to and from community partner sites for clinic, health fairs, and other events, as directed. Oversees the maintenance and other related care for the Mobile Health Center vehicle.
  • Maintains awareness of potential risk to patients, staff and facility while clinic is in session. Assists providers and the rest of the Mobile Health Center team with clerical and administrative support, as appropriate.
  • Performs all routine maintenance and interior cleaning services for the Mobile Health Center vehicle.
  • Replenishes stock of clinic/medical supplies to the Mobile Health Center vehicle, while also completing medical supply inventory and reporting items that need to be reordered to Clinic Supervisor.
  • Maintains logs that are needed for the Mobile Health Center, which include logs of vehicle mileage and compressor hours and routine inspections. Logs may need to be completed on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.
  • Completes driver vehicle evaluation form weekly or as directed.
  • Prepares clinic and laboratory areas with appropriate supplies prior to clinic sessions. Replaces and secures same at the conclusion of sessions.
  • Collaboratively works with patients, families, or outside sources to obtain complete and accurate demographic and financial information to input data into the electronic system for registration, billing, and patient tracking.
  • Facilitates related services for health center patients as appropriate with respect to their confidentiality and privacy.
  • Confirms insurance coverage. Assist with educating patients, families, and team members regarding verification status and insurance concerns. Responsible for overseeing the completion of these processes, including the financial assistance process and other protocols/processes necessary to facilitate patient access and care services for Mobile Health Center patients.
  • Explains regulatory financial requirements to the patient or responsible party and collects deposits or deductible amounts as required.
  • Obtains authorizations by utilizing online electronic verification system, or other resources, such as, HDX, EVS or Blueline.
  • Ensures that all necessary questionnaires and specific forms are completed according to predetermined requirements by government or regulatory agencies.
  • Conducts outreach to promote the programs offered in the Mobile Health Center.
  • Helps to secure new patients for Mobile Health Center services. Assists with scheduling appointments related to Mobile Health Center services and for Mobile Health Center patients.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent required and
    • Commercial Driver's license (CDL), Class B and airbrakes required and
    • Hazmat preferred

    Experience

    • 2 years of experience in driving and maintenance of a commercial vehicle preferred and
    • 2 years of experience in patient access services and/or patient registration preferred and
    • 1-2 years Knowledge of medical terminology preferred

    Licenses and Certifications

    • CDL - Group B - Commercial Drivers License Valid Commercial Driving License (CDL), Class B and airbrakes in the State of Maryland with no current points assigned to Driver's License required and
    • Drivers License - Endorsement A (Air Brakes) Valid Commercial Driving License (CDL), Class B and airbrakes in the State of Maryland with no current points assigned to Driver's License required and
    • HAZMAT Certification Hazmat preferred

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Verbal and written communication skills.
    • Basic computer skills preferred.
    • Working knowledge of various computer software applications.
    • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
    • Customer service experience required.


    This position has a hiring range of $18.00 - $28.73
