Job Summary:
MedStar Health is looking for a Patient Care Technician to join our rehabilitation team at MedStar National Rehab Hospital!
The Patient Care Technician Functions as a member of the patient-centered care team to provide direct patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse for assigned patients and their families/significant others. Assists nursing medical and therapy staff with procedures/tests and rehabilitation treatments supports patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). Performs specific care activities such as specimen collection, phlebotomy, intravenous (IV) catheter insertion, electrocardiography (EKG), and documentation in the health record.
Incumbents in this position may perform all, or a combination of the duties described depending upon the assigned work area and the specific needs of the patients and the department.

Primary Duties:
· Assists patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including hygiene, mobility, feeding, toileting, and rehabilitation exercises. Supports patient transfers, use of assistive devices, and mobilization efforts.
· Performs venipuncture/phlebotomy, collects specimens, obtains EKGs, and assists with IV catheter care. Accurately records vital signs, intake/output, and point-of-care testing (e.g., glucose monitoring, urine dipstick, hemoccult).
· Assists with wound care, catheter care, tube feedings, oxygen equipment, and application of casts, splints, and traction. Provides postmortem care and ensures proper transport of patients as needed.
· Maintains a clean and safe patient environment, stocks supplies, transports patients, and participates in staff meetings, training, and quality improvement initiatives.
· Qualifications:
· High School Diploma or GED (required)
· Completion of an approved nursing assistant certification program (required)
· 1-2 years' experience as a certified nursing assistant (required)
· Experience as a care technician (preferred)
· General health care experience in an acute care, long-term care or other settings (preferred)
· Student nurse in Junior or senior year (preferred)
This position has a hiring range of $19.17 - $33.08
