General Summary of Position

Physical Therapist Assistant Floats are responsible for working at 3 or more locations in a specific region. This is a full-time position covering MHPT clinics in Balitmore City and Anne Arundel County.  Flexible scheduling required will include 2 evenings/week.

MedStar Health is looking for a Physical Therapist Assistant Float OP to join our team! The ideal candidate will have professional competency as a general practitioner; demonstrated independent use of varied evaluation and treatment approaches; and demonstrated responsibility and accountability for projects/programs initiated in specialty area. 

The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) will provide direct physical therapy services to patients including treatment, training, and equipment recommendations under the direct supervision of a licensed physical therapist. Independently serves as a clinical resource to other staff in areas of expertise. Independently provides staff education, project development, and staff development at supervisor's request. Provides leadership and role modeling for other staff to meet service area needs.

Primary Duties: 

  • Provides evaluation and treatment services including review of pertinent historical information, performance of specific assessments, and determination of recommendations and documentation of results. Explains evaluation findings and treatment plan to patient and family and incorporates patient and family in the goals setting. Demonstrates proficiency in implementation of treatment protocols. Consults with other healthcare professionals as indicated. Documents change in patients' conditions. Completes appropriate discharge planning and follow-up care. Accurately and timely documents and charges for patient care activities considering our evolving health care environment, painting a clear picture of the patient's course of care including focused initial evaluation/plan of care that establishes baseline and goals, encounter notes, interim progress summaries, and discharge evaluation 

  • Takes initiative in pursuing and directing continuing education for professional growth for self and organization. Serves as a clinical instructor to assign students. Serves as a mentor for area as specialty. Assists in developing educational opportunities and clinical competency for clinicians. Demonstrates effective time management and meets productivity expectations. Manage an accurate schedule. Demonstrates a professional commitment to provide frictionless patient access to care through flexibility, adaptability, creativity, and actions/behaviors that display empathy in our patient consumer driven environment.  

  • Assists leadership as requested in selection, training, orienting of staff, students, and volunteers. Leads special projects as requested by leadership based on clinical areas of interest/experience that help meet the organization's goals. Ensures integration of program recommendations Facilitates mentorship by using strategies to maximize growth of mentee within network/organization for area of specialty. Complies with mentorship guidelines. Provides ongoing feedback and guidance to mentees. Assists in teaching other team members through in-services, journal clubs, etc.  

  • Catalyzes communication and collaboration with physicians, and other program/service stakeholders, across the care continuum as applicable, promoting improved programming, integration of indicated therapy to promote value driven care and best practice in transitions in care for patients across our communities. Actively participates in teams/committees to promote the goals of the service line. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant school. 

  • 3-4 years Clinical experience. 

  • Maryland, District of Columbia (DC), and/or Virginia licensure required as deemed necessary for your specific location(s).  

  • American Heart Association's BLS (Basic Life Support) for Healthcare Providers CPR (Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation) certification. 

  • 2 years of experience with identified area of expertise preferred.
