Professional and Collegiate Head Team Physician – MedStar Health

Welcome to the region's largest sports medicine program.  MedStar Health is also one of the largest programs nationally. We have the most sports partnerships of any system in the region, with over 90 team partnerships, ranging from the professional level to the community level.
 

MedStar Health is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Head Team Physician to lead and manage the comprehensive medical care of our professional and collegial athletes. This individual will work as the primary medical doctor for the teams assigned (both professional and college), overseeing all aspects of injury prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation. The role requires close collaboration with athletic trainers, physical therapists, orthopedic consultants, strength and conditioning coaches, and front office staff to ensure optimal player health and performance. 


The physician should have the skills, training, and experience to quickly and effectively diagnose and treat injuries to help professional athletes, college athletes, and weekend warriors alike return quickly to their active lives. 

 

This position will also include at least three days of sports medicine clinic time in our Washington, DC and Montgomery County offices, seeing patients from the community with various sports injuries.  Family medicine, internal medicine or emergency medicine time can also be an option depending on the applicant to maintain continuity in primary specialty. 

  • Requirements:

    • Residency trained in IM or FM or EM and board certified

    • Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship trained and board certified; 5+ years out of fellowship

    • Ideal physician would have college and/or professional team experience
