General Summary of Position
Oversees all Transformation Office team members, day-to-day operations of the Transformation Office, and the selection, progress, and success of all initiatives supported by the Transformation Office. Responsible for strategic project support for significant portions of system-wide MedStar Business Transformation operations, working closely with senior leaders at sites and other operational units and functional areas. In doing so, establishes partnerships across the MedStar Health system, identifies critical human-capital issues facing the sites, and delivers project support. Collaborates with business unit leaders, to influence the overall success and effectiveness of the Business Transformation office initiatives and projects. Leads, manages, and drives execution of approved projects through to completion, according to strict deadlines and within budget. This includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan. The Director, Transformation Office will report directly to the Vice President Business Transformation Office.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. Ensures compliance with business unit policies and procedures and governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Develops and recommends department operating budget and manages resources according to approved budget.
  • Selects, trains, orients, and assigns department staff. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and conducts performance management planning. Initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions. Maintains ongoing communication with subordinates to review programs, provide feedback, discuss new developments, and exchange information.
  • Delivers the transformation methodology for the Transformation Office, including the recommended selection and prioritization of transformation initiatives to be supported by the Transformation Office; recommends initiatives to the VP Business Transformation Office for approval.
  • Responsible for the successful execution of all initiatives supported by the Transformation Office, including meeting deadlines and the realization of targeted benefits.
  • Continuously analyzes functional area performance across the enterprise to identify new opportunities for performance improvement initiatives.
  • Continuously evaluates ongoing initiatives to determine value, streamline implementation, and ensure strategic investments are meeting expectations.
  • Staffs, manages, and supports Performance Improvement & Analytics Team, Finance Team, and HR, Change Management, & Communications Team in the execution of their day-to-day responsibilities (e.g., support development of hypotheses-based solutions, structure of data analysis).
  • Oversees collaboration with the Finance department; understands key financial statements, balance sheet analysis, and ratios and supports related financial operations (e.g., forecasted budget implications).
  • Reports progress and benefits of initiatives to the VP Business Transformation Office and other Executives; responsible for resolving roadblocks and escalating issues, as required.
  • Works collaboratively with enterprise, functional, and facility leadership to support achievement of the Transformation Office's goals, set initiative benefit targets, and leverage subject-matter expertise from across the enterprise.
  • Serves as a change agent / champion throughout the enterprise.
  • Identifies, recommends, and executes normal improvement initiatives for day-to-day operations to drive enhanced value from the Transformation Office
  • Delivers other ad hoc support for the Transformation Office leadership and organizational Executives, as required.
  • Participates in strategic planning, marketing and execution of divisional activities. Participates in the overall strategic planning, and implementations of hospital goals, objectives and mission.
  • Serves as agent of change, assist in understanding the importance, necessity, impact, and process of change and change management.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts. Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree in Business Management or other related discipline required and
    • Master's degree in Business Management or other related discipline preferred

    Experience

    • 8-10 years Work experience in program management and/or financial management required and
    • 3-4 years Managerial experience required and
    • 1-2 years Experience working in healthcare preferred

    Licenses and Certifications

    • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP)-PMI preferred
    • CSSBB - Six Sigma Black Belt preferred

    • Ability to clarify and support key messages. Must demonstrate abilities to listen and communicate effectively across all disciplines.
    • Experience with financial reporting (e.g., budgeting, financial forecasts).
    • Job requires ability to analyze data, draw conclusions and recommendations. Experience with conducting industry-specific benchmarking analyses (preferably in health care).
    • Computer skills are required to be efficient in managing data (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and email programs).
