General Summary of Position

Vice President, Nursing Operations

MedStar Washington Hospital Center, the largest and most comprehensive hospital in the Washington, D.C. region, invites visionary nurse leaders to apply for the role of Vice President, Nursing Operations. About the Role

As a key member of the Department of Nursing leadership team and MWHC's executive team, the Vice President, Nursing Operations will drive the development and execution of the Department of Nursing Strategic Plan. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Nursing/Chief Nursing Executive, this leader will:

·         Oversee multiple areas of organized nursing services across clinical and administrative domains.

·         Ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care through evidence-based practice, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement initiatives.

·         Create and foster an environment that supports professional development, participative management, and collaborative governance.

·         Partner with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient care programs, infrastructure, and resources to meet the needs of diverse patient populations.

·         Promote a culture consistent with MWHC's mission, vision, and SPIRIT values while driving associate engagement.

 

Key Responsibilities

·         Champion a patient-first culture focused on quality, safety, and the best patient experience.

·         Lead strategic planning, financial stewardship, and operational excellence for nursing services.

·         Collaborate on program development, new service lines, and resource allocation.

·         Oversee succession planning, recruitment, and professional growth of nursing leaders and teams.

 

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing (required); Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or Business Administration (required).

Experience: 8–10 years of progressive leadership in nursing operations, including at least 5–7 years in senior administrative/managerial roles.

Licensure/Certifications: Current RN license in the District of Columbia (required).

Specialty certification in clinical specialty or Nursing Administration (within 1 year).

CPR/BLS certification (within 90 days).
