Description

Five Week Winter Extern Program

$18.00/hr

"The Summer Extern Program at Mercy Ardmore was my avenue to determine what kind of nurse I will become and what department suits me the most. Over the course of two months, I worked alongside nearly 40 nurses, each having different nursing styles. This allowed me to learn the ways of nursing in a hospital setting. I was extremely nervous in the beginning, having only experienced a handful of clinical days during my first year of nursing school. I am now confident in my decision to become a nurse and am eager to finish my degree. The amount of valuable lessons learned this summer has lead me to believe that paid externships should be a requirement of all nursing programs. By spending this time in the field learning from real nursing experiences, student nurses will graduate with more confidence and passion to improve patient care across the board."
