Description

Reporting to the Mercy Hospital President, the Chief of Staff (COS) will be responsible for the medical affairs of Mercy and its related programs and services. The focus and expected outcome of these activities is to deliver the highest quality of care in the most cost-effective manner incorporating all members of the health team, including physicians. The COS will be responsible for helping to plan and for implementing strategies and programs to achieve the institutions commitment to excel in the provision of all health services.

 

In carrying out the above responsibilities, the COS will interact regularly with the Medical Staff Leadership and members, the president, CNO, other senior staff and coworkers within the hospital, as well as with community, government, regulatory and accrediting groups, including The Joint Commission and the Missouri Department of Health. 


Qualifications:

 

  • Education: M.D. or D.O.
  • Licensure: Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Missouri.
    Experience: The ideal candidate for this position will be a physician with solid clinical training and experience, management experience and a demonstrated commitment to excellence and quality patient care. The nature of the COS position requires being accepted as a credible leader by both administrators and practitioners. Consequently, experience in the practice of clinical medicine is important, as well the experience in management and leadership. For recruitment purposes, significant experience in senior level management in another healthcare setting such as managed care would be considered, as would leadership experience at a departmental level in a hospital.
  • Certification/Registration: Board certification in an American Board of Medical Specialties approved medical specialty is required.
