Overview:

 

This is an entry-level position requiring basic knowledge of electricity. It is recommended that incumbents attend one or two years of trade school to prepare them for advancement opportunities. The Electrician I position will allow for the incumbent to learn electrical theory, work practices, safety procedures, and become familiar with the NEC. This position will also provide opportunity to learn proper use of basic electrical tools and equipment to maintain and troubleshoot electrical systems. Utilizes exceptional customer service and communication skills. The purpose of this position is to ensure a safe working environment and support an exceptional Environment of Care for Mercy.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

- Works under the direction of a Lead, Supervisor, or Manager position.- Replaces lamps in all types of lighting fixtures and equipment.- Cleans light lens covers for all types of lighting fixtures.- Assists with testing of emergency generators.- Assists with troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of fire protection systems.- Assists with troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of electrical equipment and devices including: blanket warmers, kitchen equipment, secondary electrical distribution systems, breaker panels, UPS, cameras, access control, OR lighting, OR tables, lighting, wiring devices, timers, parking lights, illuminated signs, battery lights, illuminated exit signs, TVs and systems, and hospital beds.- Completes preventative maintenance and other work orders in an efficient manner. Closes work orders with relative cost and material information upon completion of the work.- Learns to read blueprints and wiring schematics.- Learns proper use of ammeters, volt-ohmmeters, ground tension testers, polarity testers, amp probes, and circuit tracers to troubleshoot and make necessary repairs.- Maintains on-time completion rate of 100% for all High-Risk PM work orders. Maintains at least 90% on-time completion rate for all other PM work orders.- Uses computer to record and close PM work order information- Accurately records testing information on logs and preventative maintenance work orders.- Rotates shifts as needed to accommodate work schedules.- Willing and able to assist with security tasks when necessary.- Assists with snow removal or other grounds maintenance activities as needed.- Performs other work duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Experience: 1 or more years commercial experience working as a maintenance technician.  1 or more years working as a maintenance electrician in a healthcare, educational, or industrial setting.
  • Preferred Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. 2 or more years of training in a Technical or Vocational School.
  • Licensure: As required by regulatory agencies such as State and local Municipalities.Must maintain a valid drivers license
  • Other: Requires oral and written communication skills to communicate with customers and follow instructions. - Verbal ability required to read and understand technical manuals. - Numerical ability required to make calculations for testing, installation, measurement, estimation and repair of equipment.- Ability to prioritize work assignments, conceptualize and formulate finished product.- Form perception is required when measuring and installing parts and equipment. - Requires knowledge and use of various computer software such as Outlook and Mercy work order system.- Ability to manage time and materials efficiently. Completes work assignments in a high-quality manner and the lowest cost to Mercy.- Requires exceptional customer service skills and ability to achieve department goals.- Spatial ability required to understand forms and relationships when working from blueprints or specifications.- Incumbent must achieve favorable results on both oral and written competency exam prior to advancing to Electrician II.- Requires general manual dexterity, basic math knowledge, and mechanical aptitude.- Exposure to extreme temperatures, electric shock, and loud noise.
