Overview:

The Monitoring Technician is responsible for on-going surveillance of patient cardiac monitors and provides RNs and/or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms. Reviews patient information to determine normal heart rhythm pattern, current pattern and prior variances. Works cooperatively as part of a team. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

 

Job Description: 

Troubleshoots monitors with nursing staff and contacts Clinical Engineering as appropriate.- Follows policy/procedure for MERS/ Sentinel event reporting- Follows confidentiality policy/procedure.- Complies with patient rights/regulations.Orients and mentors new staff members. Serves as a resource for training and troubleshooting- Maintains accurate census information.- Coordinates workflow by communicating to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.- Prioritizes appropriately and utilizes good use of time.Maintains ongoing, high-level surveillance of patient's cardiac rhythms and immediately notifies nursing/clinicians of any rate/rhythm changes- Measures and interprets patients heart rhythm and documents on patient record per policy.- Initiates and discontinues monitoring on notification of admission, transfer, or discharge from the bedside clinician.- Performs clerical duties related to admission, discharge, and documentation of patient information.- Keeps updated on monitoring system and maintains clinical competence.- Observes changes or unusual occurrences in patient condition and reports them immediately to the appropriate personnel.- Demonstrates flexibility regarding workload, assignments and change.- Seeks opportunities for continued learningCommunication Management:- Answers telephone and communicates clearly when receiving information from units or providers. Uses clear and complete communication with unit personnel when delivering information about changes in patient rhythm.- Develops a rapport and cooperative relationship with nursing and clinical staff and responds to questions/requests from healthcare providers.- Accepts delegation of tasksTechnology:- Performs unit specific computer functions.- Reports computer issues as needed.

 

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma, G.E.D. and/or current Mercy coworker.Monitor tech course completion and/or passing score of 85% on monitor tech competency exam.
  • Experience: Basic computer skills. Attention to detail and ability to multi-task is essential. Excellent communication skills and ability to make quick decisions under pressure is a must.
  • Certifications: CRAT certification preferred
