Position: OB Technician 

Department: Labor & Birth - Mercy Hospital STL - Ballas Campus 

Hours / Shift:  FT Nights - 6:30pm to 6:30am - three 12 hour shifts per week and rotation for weekends and holidays.

 

Overview

Maintains professional accountability and technical support for provision of patient care for the OB patients experience. Under the direction of Nursing and Medical Staff, provide a wide variety of duties related to patient care, clerical support and surgical assistance. Works cooperatively with others as part of a team and recognizes the importance of unit goals. Performs designated clinical procedures and non-clinical support tasks essential to providing care to the patient and the success of the unit. May assist in operational support tasks including maintenance of patient records, bed control and turnover, patient registration, charge capture, ensuring adequate supplies, phlebotomy, transport of specimens, patient transport, obtain blood glucose, Birth Certificate entry, and other duties as assigned. Support the nursing team and patients by providing supportive care and assistance with ADL's to newborns, childbearing and postpartum patients, pediatric patients, and others as assigned. Maintains calm and works efficiently and effectively through obstetrical emergencies, as part of the team. May be required to take call. All duties are performed in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

 

 

Job Duties: 

  • If no previous experience, Mercy will provide a required 175-hour training program that meets the Department of Health and Senior Services requirements. The program will be completed as part of the new hire orientation process and must be completed within 90 days of hire to remain in the PCA position per state guidelines. 
  • BLS Required within one month of hire, completion of PCA competencies within 3 months of hire 

 

Qualifications

Education:High-School Diploma or GED arerequired. This is a non-certified technologist position. May have attended and completed an accredited surgical tech program, but does not have an active Surgical Technologist Certification (CST). You may be asked to provide proof of education.

 

Certifications:American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required or retain once hired. 

 

Experience: Surgical Technology experience required at hire or completion of a unit-based competency within 3 months of hire. ** timeframe/months to be determined by department leader based on being deemed competent to perform independently.

 

Must understand English both written and spoken, must be able toperform job-related functions safely and successfully, with or without reasonable accommodation required by federal, state, or local law.
