Responsible for directing the operations of the Acute Care Hospital Pharmacy. Ensures compliance with patient care quality standards; directs and controls the purchase and inventory maintenance of all pharmaceuticals and related substances/supplies; directs and participates in the department's planning, revenue analysis, budgeting, education, and human resource management activities.

Leadership and Management:
a. Develops, implements, and maintains policies and procedures for the pharmacy to support the departments operations.
b. Coordinates operational efforts with hospital management to most efficiently serve our patients and customers.
c. Encourages staff involvement in activities that contribute to corporate vision and values.
d. Demonstrates a management style that emphasizes fairness, respect, and sensitivity to others and considers the common good as well as individual desires.

Human Resources Management:
a. Utilizes and follows Mercys standard hiring practices. Develops job descriptions and standards of performance for all pharmacy positions.
b. Recognizes unacceptable performance, coaches Individuals, develops performance improvement plan, and counsels as appropriate.
c. Maintains appropriate documentation of all performances and conducts timely performance reviews.
d. Facilitates conflict resolution between parties or groups.
e. Maintains confidentiality of medical information.

Planning and Goal Management:
a. Plans for new services or changes/improvements in services.
b. Sets department goals based on organizational mission and vision.
c. Encourages staff involvement in goal setting/decision making process.

Operations Management:
a. Manages all pharmaceutical distributive functions in order to meet licensing accreditation and other regulatory requirements.
b. Evaluates manpower needs and assigns staff for maximum efficiency.
c. Communicates with staff one on one or in groups to share information and serves as a role model for staff.
d. Promotes team effort toward providing quality care for patients served.
e. Encourages creativity and innovation in staff and collaboration within and among team members.
f. Coordinates narcotic issues internally and throughout the hospital with Safety Department.
g. Schedules weekly assignments, holidays, and vacations for pharmacy staff with acceptable staffing.
h. Follows up on Quality Improvement Reports.

Fiscal Management:
a. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility in the planning and utilization of resources.
b. Utilizes financial reports in monitoring day to day budget expenses and forecasting fiscal process.
c. Assists Director of Pharmacy Services in preparing annual operational and capital budgets.

Quality Management:
a. Identifies measurable quality standards and monitors against the standards.
b. Uses quality improvement tools and techniques to determine changes required to minimize errors and improve quality of output.

Education: Bachelor of Science (BS) or higher degree in pharmacy required.
Licensure: Requires a current pharmacist license from the Missouri State Board of Pharmacy. Must also maintain Medication Therapy Services (MTS) certification on the license.
Experience: Minimum three years of practice experience is required. Minimum of 3 years in Pharmacy leadership required.
Certifications:
Other: Past experiences must have demonstrated leadership ability, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to apply sound principles of management and supervision.

Preferred Experience: A minimum of 3 years of supervisory duties is preferred.
