Mercy Springfield is seeking a dedicated and experienced Pharmacy Technician III to join our pharmacy team on a full-time evening shift schedule. Position Summary

The Pharmacy Technician III assists pharmacists in preparing, compounding, dispensing, and distributing medications while supporting pharmacy operations and patient care activities. This role performs advanced pharmacy functions, utilizes leading pharmacy technologies, and contributes to quality improvement initiatives while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

What You'll Do Medication Preparation & Dispensing

• Enter and maintain accurate medication information within EPIC and pharmacy systems.
• Retrieve, count, package, and prepare medications for pharmacist verification.
• Accurately fill medication orders and prescriptions.
• Prepare and compound sterile preparations, including hazardous medications and chemotherapy as applicable.
• Ensure all medications are prepared and dispensed according to pharmacy standards and regulatory requirements.

Inventory & Medication Management

• Receive, stock, secure, and maintain medication inventory.
• Order medications and pharmacy supplies as needed.
• Process returned and unused medications and issue credits when appropriate.
• Monitor inventory for expiration dates and maintain compliance with quality standards.
• Follow all hazardous waste disposal and handling procedures.

Patient & Customer Service

• Deliver medications to patients, nursing units, customer care areas, homes, curbside pickup locations, and other approved destinations.
• Prepare medications for shipment and delivery.
• Conduct patient follow-up calls when assigned.
• Provide exceptional customer service and professional communication to patients and healthcare team members.

Quality & Operational Excellence

• Maintain pharmacy equipment and workspaces in a clean, safe, and compliant manner.
• Prioritize responsibilities to meet patient care and departmental needs.
• Participate in process improvement initiatives and medication use evaluations.
• Assist with data collection for quality improvement projects.
• Attend department meetings, huddles, and training sessions.

Training & Team Support

• Assist with onboarding and training new pharmacy technicians.
• Serve as a resource for pharmacy workflows, technology systems, and operational processes.
• Support team success through collaboration and mentorship.

Qualifications Required Education

• High School Diploma or GED required.

Required Experience

• Minimum three (3) years of hospital pharmacy experience or equivalent pharmacy experience required.

Licensure

• Active registration in good standing with the State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician required, or willingness to submit registration application by the first day of employment.
• Must complete fingerprinting and FBI background check requirements as applicable.

Certification

• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required within six (6) months of hire.

Preferred Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Advanced knowledge of pharmacy dispensing and compounding procedures.
• Experience with sterile compounding, hazardous medications, and chemotherapy preparation.
• Knowledge of automated dispensing cabinets, robotic dispensing systems, and pharmacy automation technology.
• Experience troubleshooting pharmacy software and automated equipment.
• Proficiency with pharmacy information systems and workflow management tools.
• Experience with EPIC Electronic Health Record (preferred).
• Understanding of medication ordering, prescription adjudication, inventory management, and financial assistance programs.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience training, mentoring, and supporting fellow pharmacy team members.
