Radiation Therapy

 

Overview:

Utilizes the nursing process to provide patient care. Maintains professional accountability for provision of patient care for the assigned patients. Evaluates the overall effectiveness of care provided by other direct caregivers. Coordinates the patient care in conjunction with other departments.

 

Collaborate with physicians and RNs in a clinical setting, rooming patients, documenting history, obtaining vital signs, assessments, and following doctor's orders.  Prepare patients for procedures, administer sedation and medications as needed, set up procedure room, assist physician during procedures, monitor patient, discharge planning and care. Availability for flexible hours to perform procedures when needed. Friendly and compassionate to nurture patient and healthcare provider relationship based on mutual trust. Asses and monitor patients before, during, and after radiation therapy. Educate patients and families about radiation therapy process and side effects. 

 

Manage and alleviate treatment related side effects. 

Attention to patient's vital signs and symptoms. Strong patient advocacy when communicating treatment plans to interdisciplinary teams and family members. Detail oriented when taking notes and vitals with the ability to deliver an assessment on patient's health status to other treatment members. Assist in coordination of radiation therapy treatments by providing education on what to expect during treatment. Review patient's medical history and test results  prior to treatments. 


Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited registered professional nursing program
  • Licensure: Is personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining, a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all state board of nursing requirements.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion of course within 30 days of hire.Other unit specific certifications as required or acquisition of certification within department required timeframe; ACLS certified
  • Experience in oncology or radiation therapy preferred but not required. Experience in minor procedures but not required.
