Registered Polysomnographic Technologist

Status: Full-Time (40 hours/week)

Overview:

 

Under the supervision of the Cardiopulmonary Services Medical Director and Department Director, The Polysomnography Technician is responsible for providing Sleep Testing services in accordance with specific physician's orders, department policies and procedures.


Qualifications:

 

Education: HS Diploma/equivalent OR Graduate of an accredited Polysomnography program

Experience: 6 months experience preferred

Certifications: Registered Polysomnography Technologist (RPSGT) certification; American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) within 3 months of hire

What You'll Do:
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of sleep testing, monitoring and interpretation.
  • Maintains knowledge and skills of the various methods of CPAP, BIPAP, and oxygen delivery, including necessary equipment.
  • Remains alert, assesses O2 sats and the possible side effects of oxygen delivery, CPAP, BIPAP, and provides proper documentation.
  • Ability to interact with physician or physicians reading tests.
  • Appropriately organizes work during work shift.
  • Performs patient assessment, sleep questionnaire and proper documentation.
  • Performs pre-sleep screen when necessary.
  • Performs Order Entry functions, order verification, knowledge of pre-cert, diagnosis qualifications, sends out tests and completes file.
  • Performs set-up and ability to score test.
  • Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
  • Inspects and tests equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently, notifies appropriate personnel of any and all malfunctions.
  • Follows departmental equipment sterilization and maintenance procedures.
  • Able to trouble shoot when equipment in not working properly and or contact designated personnel.
  • Maintains clean and safe work area.
  • Maintains file of in-services, competencies, certifications, licensure, CEUs, tests, etc.
  • Attends in-services.
