Overview:
The Senior Auditing Specialist is responsible for the timely and effective auditing of medical record documentation to identify inaccurate coding or abstracting services; prepares reports of findings and meets with providers and/or coders to communicate education and training recommendation(s) on accurate coding practices. Provides second-level review of coding on identified DRGs, APCs, and data analytics. Focused audits for inpatient, outpatient and/or professional services to analyze diagnoses and procedure codes as requested. Key responsibilities will additionally include participating in process improvement initiatives and keeping abreast of regulatory and federal coding guidelines. Will collaborate with a variety of departments such as Denials team, DRG Validation team and Clinical Documentation Improvement team. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our Mission, Values, and Mercy Service Standards.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Required Education: High School Diploma
- Licensure:Experience: At least 5 years coding related experience with diagnosis and procedure coding. Proficiency with ICD-10-CM coding is required. Proficiency with DRGs and/or APCs, CPT/HCPCS coding.
- Certification/Registration: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, CPC-P, COC, CPMA, CIC, CRC, CIRCCOther Skills and Knowledge:Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Preferred Qualifications Education: A.S from an accredited Health Information Technology program or B.S. from an accredited Health Information Management Program.
- Licensure: Experience: Minimum 3 years inpatient and/or outpatient auditing experience.
- Certification/Registration: RHIA, RHIT Plus CCS and/or CPCOther Skills and Knowledge:Previous coding training experience.Working knowledge of 3M encoder.
