Description

The Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin is seeking an exceptional Internal Medicine and Pulmonary/Critical Care leader to join the Department of Internal Medicine as the Division Chief for Pulmonology and Critical Care. Successful applicants will be eligible for appointment at the Associate or Professor level and should have significant expertise in medical education, clinical program development, and scholarship. Experience with value-based care delivery, integrated practice models, and population health is required. Applicants must be board-certified in Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine.

Dell Medical School (DMS) is the first medical school established in nearly five decades by a member of the Association of American Universities, an organization of leading public and private research universities. An extraordinary commitment of resources, both public and private, has been made to enable its development and success. The Dell Medical School graduated its charter class in 2020, and in February of that same year, received full LCME accreditation. As part of The University of Texas at Austin, one of the nation's leading research universities, the Dell Medical School pursues innovation in the re-design of healthcare delivery, excellence in healthcare research, and programs in interdisciplinary and inter-professional education.

Development of a strong pulmonary and critical care presence and infrastructure for care delivery, education, and research are essential for meeting the goals of the Dell Medical School.

The Division Chief will report to the Chair of Internal Medicine and will be responsible for collaborating with key internal and external partners, reporting to the Chair of Internal Medicine to design, implement, evaluate, and improve all aspects of the pulmonary and critical care medicine experience.

The Department of Internal Medicine is home to 129 faculty and 68 residents per year, which includes a Primary Care Track and a Distinctions Track in Care Transformation, plus 5 preliminary interns in Medicine. We are currently planning for the launch of a fellowship program in pulmonary and critical care medicine in the next three years, which will be based at two sites affiliated with the department and medical school, Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin (ASMCA) and Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas (DSMC). DSMC is a 211-bed, safety net, Level 1 Trauma Center, and serves as the primary inpatient training facility for our residents and fellows. ASMCA, located minutes north of downtown Austin, is a 524-bed, tertiary regional referral center with advanced programs in cardiac and pulmonary care.

This is an exciting and unique opportunity to join a team of outstanding clinicians and academicians while serving as faculty in the first new medical school to be built by a tier-one University in nearly 50 years.
