Administrator, General Claims – Commercial

General Summary

Based in NJM's corporate headquarters in suburban West Trenton, New Jersey, this is an exciting opportunity to be a foundational leader in the evolution of NJM Insurance Group's Commercial General Liability Claims Department. The Administrator will have the unique ability to help shape the direction of the department working closely with strategic business partners cross the enterprise and senior leadership to create a best-in-class operation that supports NJM's growing commercial business throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region. Commercial General Claims Administrator leads and mentors Claim Supervisors (4) and their staff, monitoring compliance with procedures and regulation and ensuring superior customer service.

This is a hybrid position requiring four days in the corporate office in New Jersey and one day remote.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and complete personnel records to include mentoring to ensure the ongoing development and performance of commercial claims supervisors and their teams.
  • Develop and engage supervisor and claims staff through coaching, monitoring performance and maximizing the effectiveness of operations creating an environment of accountability, continual improvement, superior customer service and professional development.
  • Provide strategic leadership to the Commercial Claims Unit. Develop workflows for Commercial Claims Unit and assist in the development of training sessions for staff regarding complex claim matters, emerging issues and new policy forms.
  • Guide staff with coverage determinations when needed. Provide oversight into managing claims and litigation in multiple jurisdictions. 
  • Conduct file reviews and provide consistent performance feedback to direct report to address areas needing additional training or knowledge enhancement.
  • Demonstrate exceptional critical thinking and problems solving skills as well as excellent communication skills. Consistently providing both positive and difficult feedback.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently to achieve results with limited supervision. Exhibit the ability to maintain a high level of productivity, confidentiality and customer service.
  • Assist with selection of outside specialized experts. Manage and coordinate external vendors.
  • Review loss runs to organize Agent/Broker/Insured Claim Review meetings. Assist the Commercial Staff in preparing to present their claim exposures.
  • Keep Senior Claim Management advised of challenging situations and/or recurring trends involving claims, agents/brokers and internal business partners.
  • Participation in quarterly meetings with the General Claims management team to present the commercial teams' results.
  • Establish team meetings, supervisor meetings and roundtable discussions monthly to ensure regular engagement with staff as well as maximizing operational effectiveness, efficient use of resources and adherence to best practices.
  • Monitor capacity to identify concerns with volume or emerging trends. Participate in recruiting and interviewing as needed.
  • Investigate and respond to Commercial DOBI complaints.

Required Qualifications: Knowledge, skills & abilities, experience, minimum & desired education, certification and/or license requirements

  • 2 years Commercial supervisory experience required
  • College degree
  • Several years of relevant commercial claims experience with an insurance carrier
  • Technical aptitude, strong commercial policy knowledge
  • Strong multi-tasking, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and credentials.

Pay Range: $121,807-$141,453

Eligible full-time employees receive a competitive Total Rewards package, including but not limited to a 401(k) with employer match up to 8% and additional service-based contributions, Health, Dental, and Vision insurance, Life and Disability coverage, generous PTO, Paid Sick Leave, and paid parental leave in addition to state-mandated leave.
