Description

The Director of Clinical Engineering serves as the primary administrative contact for executive leadership on biomedical technology issues for NorthBay Health on an enterprise-wide basis, which includes support for the hospitals, ambulatory surgery center and clinics. The Director oversees the evaluation, selection, procurement, implementation, and fiscally sound lifecycle management of patient monitoring, diagnostic and therapeutic medical equipment and systems throughout all care delivery environments of NorthBay Health, and is accountable for a successful and continuously improving clinical technology management program as defined in the NorthBay Health Medical Equipment Management Plan. The Director is accountable for the Medical Equipment Management Program, including annual goals and objectives related to supporting the growth and development of clinical engineering and tech services in response to present and future needs, ensuring elements are designed and implemented to comply with The Joint Commission and other regulatory Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements, standards and best practices, including, but not limited to CMS, FDA, OSHA, NFPA, CAP, CA Title 22, OSHPD/HCAI and CDPH.



Qualifications

  1. Education:  Bachelor's Degree in relevant field required, Masters preferred.  Relevant field and/or equivalent combination of education, training, professional certification, and progressively responsible professional experience of at least 8 years may be considered in lieu of Bachelor's Degree.
  2. Experience:  Knowledge of and experience with The Joint Commission, CMS, CDPH, State of California, and FDA medical device-related accreditation and licensing requirements.  Knowledge of and experience with UL, NFPA, NEC, IEC, and other national and international technical standards. Extensive healthcare experience with strategic planning, project management, analytical and program evaluation to continually examine systems and to develop or revise to accommodate change requirements.  Experience in supervision/leadership and human resource management to hire, assign, and direct work, evaluate and reward performance, transfer or promote, suspend, layoff/recall, discharge, or otherwise discipline career staff employees. Experience with principles and practices of business management to effectively and ethically manage and oversee operational resources. . 
    Demonstrated results oriented management style.  Demonstrated initiative and follow through in a fast paced environment.
  3. Certifications:  Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE) or Certified Healthcare Technology Manager (CHTM) preferred.
  4. Licenses:  Must maintain a valid California driver's license.
  5. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 
  • Technical knowledge and engineering skills in the following disciplines:  Electronics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Systems, IT Networks, Human Physiology and Medicine. 
  • In depth knowledge of Joint Commission standards and other applicable standards and regulations of Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ's).
  • Knowledge of many different types of patient care equipment.
  • Interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with a diverse group of individuals to secure and/or provide information to clarify situations, resolve problems, and negotiate services and/or agreements. 
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical principles to non-technical personnel both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to supervise, direct, evaluate, and delegate work and responsibilities to subordinate personnel.
  • Ability to use basic and advanced computer software packages (word processing, spreadsheets, databases).
  • Strong project management and computer skills required, including robust Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software experience.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement policies and procedures.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and recommend solutions.
  • Leadership skills to implement new systems and processes that improve the overall effectiveness of the unit and proven success training, mentoring, leading, and motivating a team.
  • Strong leadership quality and public presence; able to represent the Clinical Engineering department with customers and most management levels internally and externally.

Compensation:

  • Budgeted salary range is $170K - $190K (Offered annual salary based on years of experience)  
  • Incentive bonus eligible, up to 15% of the annualized salary 
  • Discretionary, unlimited PTO for Director level positions
