At NorthBay Health, the Ultrasounographer I, works closely under the review of the Ultrasound III and Radiologist. Under regular check ins and supervision, coordinates daily patient schedule for U/S. Performs U/S studies and ensures correct processing and handling.  Ensure proper equipment maintenance and cleanliness. Assist clerical staff when possible. Attend seminars and in-services.  Promotes a cooperative and positive relationship with physicians and other hospital staff/departments. 

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES

  1. Performs ultrasound examinations in accordance with established protocols under the review of Ultrasonographer III.

  2. Reviews ultrasound requisitions for completeness and validity of examinations being requested.

  3. Assists and instructs patients prior to and during examinations.

  4. Responsible for evaluating each study to ensure it meets required quality standards.

  5. Responsible for patient confidentiality, safety and well-being during examinations.

  6. Responsible for inspecting and cleaning equipment prior to and after each patient.

  7. Reports all equipment failures and/or malfunctions to the Diagnostic Imaging outpatient supervisor.

  8. Reports all patient complaints and discrepancies to the Diagnostic Imaging outpatient supervisor.

  9. Responsible for organizing and scanning paperwork into the Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) and completing examination charges through the Radiology Information System (RIS).

  10. Other duties as assigned



Qualifications

  1. Education: Graduate from approved ultrasound course.

  2. Licensure: RDMS or ARRT (Sonography) eligible. Must be registered within 12 months of hire.  AHA or equivalent BLS certification.

  3. Experience:   6 months experience preferred.

  4. Skills: Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in providing appropriate care for patient in the following age groups: Geriatric, Adult, Young Adult, Pediatric and Neonatal. 

  5. Standards of Performance: Demonstrate performance by adhering to established policies and procedures and exhibiting the defined characteristics associated with attendance and punctuality.

  6.  Physical Effort: Attendance is an essential function of the job.The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  Must be able to assist moving and transferring patients as well as moving ultrasound equipment.
