FIRST POSTING TO ENROLLED ONEIDA TRIBAL MEMBERS ONLY


Summary:

This position will work with the Oneida Nation Programs to learn and support the department. Assist with administrative duties for the department. 


Responsibilities:

* Assist with providing research as requested by Cultural Heritage Area staff, Tribal members, and public.
* Assists with community-wide revitalization of speaking the Oneida Language and continue to acquire knowledge of the Oneida Language and Culture
* Assist in developing culture based Oneida Language teaching materials and resources for community usage
* Assist in plant identification process and documentation, recording of medicinal usage and planning for sustainability of these medicines on the Oneida reservation
* Assist in the development of Elder Interviews by participating in the interviewing process, documentation on changes throughout history, manage elder list, interview, monitor, and store completed interviews for safekeeping and future retrieval.
* Assist in collaborating with Oneida Nation representatives, outside entities, and community to conduct/schedule outreach activities, such as tours, workshops, lectures, and classes
* Assist in inventory of maps of the reservation with culturally sensitive sites
* Assist in inventory of equipment, supplies, and electronic files for use in any of the above duties
* Prepare various reports as requested.
* Above duties and responsibilities are not all inclusive but rather a general representation of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position. The duties and responsibilities will be subject to change based on organizational needs and/or deemed necessary by the supervisor.

Skills:

Essential:
* Organizational management. This requires the incumbent to plan, organize and schedule priorities efficiently and effectively, meet strict deadlines and successfully cope with challenging situations and conditions
* Knowledge of the Oneida language, community, history, and culture
* Well-developed interpersonal skills are required promoting tact, courtesy, respect, objectivity, maturity, and patience while interacting with a wide variety of personalities
* Ability to communication in both the Oneida and English language
* Willing to gain knowledge of Oneida community, history, and culture, traditions, values and culture, traditions, values and unique needs of the Native American Youth
* Willing to learn about preserving the Oneida culture/language for future generations.
* Ability to operate standard recording devices such as cassette recorder, camcorder, and videocassette recorder.
* Ability to work cooperatively with various Tribal programs and committees in planning and implementing Oneida Language revitalization projects.
* Ability to attend necessary activities/events and events that are determined to be appropriate for skill development in Oneida Language and Culture
* Ability to operate standard office equipment such as a personal computer, telephone, copier, fax, calculator and scanner
* Ability and wiliness to obtain Oneida Certification on reporting Child Abuse and Neglect is required within ninety (90) days of employment

Must pass a background check to meet Employment Eligibility Requirements. If applicable, must pass a background check to meet Oneida Nation/State Compact and/or Oneida Nation Gaming Ordinance, and may be required to obtain a temporary license and/or Gaming license as a condition of employment.

Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and adhere to the Nation Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy.

A Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and/or a 2 step TB Skin Test is required within thirty (30) days of employment.

Must provide a copy of diploma/degree, license, or certification upon employment.
