SALARY: $15.00 Hourly
OPEN TO ONEIDA ENROLLED TRIBAL MEMBERS ONLY
NUMBER OF HOURS PER WEEK:32 HOURS PER WEEK

INTERN DUTIES/PROJECTS
 

  1. Assist the Physical Therapist/Physical Therapist Assistant during patient testing, evaluations and complex procedures.
  2. Assist in carry out a program of corrective exercise and treatment for assigned patients, as determined by evaluation performed by Physical Therapist.
  3. Assist in instruction patients on segments of the program, including proper use of wheelchairs, crutches, canes, braces, and prosthetic appliances and devices.
  4. Obtains and returns required equipment.
  5. Maintains and cares for equipment and supplies.
  6. Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols.
  7. Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk.
  8. Assist with encouraging patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may “not seem right”.
  9. Assist with dressing and undressing, removing and putting on braces or supportive equipment, prostheses, crutches, etc.
  10. Record data progress during therapy session.
  11. Measure and track range of motion.
  12. Straighten and clean rooms.
  13. Clean and prepare equipment for therapy session.
  14. Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
  15. Assist in community health fairs, education, and other events.
  16. Adhere to all Tribal Personnel Policies and Procedures, Tribal Standard Operating Procedures, and Area and Program Strategic Plans and Policies.

INTERN SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS/COLLEGE MAJOR
  1. Major: PHYSICAL THERAPIST

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
  1. Frequently stand; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear; lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. 
  2. Occasionally sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; lift and/or move up to 150 pounds with assistance.
  3. Work is generally performed in a clinic or outpatient setting with exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment and exposure to blood borne pathogens.  Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job.
  4. Evening and/or weekend work and/or extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
  5. A Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and/or a 2 step TB Skin Test is required within thirty (30) days of employment

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Ability to learn Physical Therapy theory and practice.
  2. Ability to learn patient evaluation and plan of care procedures.
  3. Knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements and standards.
  4. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and/or kinesiology.
  5. Ability to learn the administration, indications and contra-indications of various physical agents and physical therapy techniques.
  6. Ability to learn clinical operations and procedures.
  7. Ability to learn the operation and maintenance of related therapy facilities and equipment.
  8. Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint).
  9. Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.
  10. Ability to learn to effectively communicate medical information, test results, diagnoses and/or proposed treatment in a manner easily understood by the client.
  11. Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports.
  12. Ability to learn to safely lift, and physically manipulate patients.
  13. Ability to assist Physical Therapy patients in the use of facilities and equipment.
  14. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  15. Ability to monitor and/or maintain quality control standards.
  16. Ability to learn to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
  17. Must be CPR and Red Cross First Aide Certified.  Must maintain CPR and Red Cross First Aide Certification during employment.
  18. Complete Oneida Certification on Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect training within ninety (90) days of employment.
  19. Must adhere to strict confidentiality in all matters. (Must sign a confidentiality statement prior to employment.)
  20. Must complete Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training within 30 days of employment and annually thereafter.
  21. Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.  Must adhere to the Nation's Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy during the course of employment.
  22. Employees are required to have proof of immunity or dates of 2 doses of MMR and proof of immunity or dates of 2 doses of Varicella prior to starting in any position within the Oneida Comprehensive Health Division.  Any refusal of vaccination(s) or failure to provide proof of immunity may disqualify the applicant.              
  23. Must pass a background security check with the Oneida Nation in order to meet the Employment Eligibility Requirements, Tribal/State Compact and/or Oneida Nation Gaming Ordinance as they pertain to the position. A temporary license or Gaming License issued by the Oneida Gaming Commission is required as a condition of employment and continuing employment within the Oneida Nation's Gaming Division.
  24. A valid driver's license or occupational driver's license, reliable transportation, and insurance are required.  Must obtain a Wisconsin driver's license or occupational driver's license within thirty (30) days of employment if applicant has an out-of-state driver's license.  Must be authorized as eligible to operate a Personal vehicle under the Oneida Nation's Vehicle Driver Certification and Fleet Management Law prior to actual start date.  Must maintain driver's eligibility as a condition of employment.
