About this Position

This position will work with students on all aspects of career coaching including, but not limited to, major and career exploration, internship/job searches and overall career readiness. Additionally, this position will collaborate with other Career Services departments within OSU to design and deliver effective, personalized, and innovative career development experiences and provide strategic support to the Career Readiness programs, contributing to measurable and successful outcomes. This position will collaborate with other departments within OSU-OKC campus to assist with recruiting and retention where it relates to career readiness, and with other College Career Consultants.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in career/guidance counseling, human relations, education, or closely related field. 
  • Minimum of three years progressively responsible work experience.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in collegiate career counseling, human relations manager, corporate talent development or training director.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate diplomatically, clearly, and effectively, both verbally and in writing to exchange information, give/receive instructions and respond to inquiries appropriately with all students, faculty, staff and community partners.
  • High degree of initiative to work independently and also collaborate in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of office technologies including but not limited to: office computers, fax machines, scanners, internet, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Passion for assisting customers and representing the OSU-OKC and OSU brand with positivity and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated history of ethical and professional behavior.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in career/guidance counseling, human relations, education, or closely related field.
  • Previous experience in career advising, workforce development, academic advising, or a similar student support role.
  • Experience in higher education career services.
Preferred Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:
  • Strong knowledge of workforce systems and strategies such as Handshake or similar job board platforms.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Partner with the OSU system and campus programs to implement strategy and best practices to support persistence and completion strategies for OSU-OKC students and alumni to include online resources and coordinated grassroots and intentional efforts to promote career selection, placement, and continued education to enhance students' career readiness.
  2. Maintain relationships with employers and coordinate job/internship postings, recruitment events, and on-campus interviews.
  3. Collaborate with academic advisors, faculty, and student organizations to support career readiness across all majors/programs.  
  4. Implement individualized career development plans through consultations and readiness strategies including exploration, resume development, mock interviews, jobs search strategies, and group sessions.
  5. Identify, develop and maintain program outcomes and reporting as required.
  6. Develop and facilitate workshops and employer panels to enhance student engagement with the job market.
  7. Host a career fair on campus each semester (Fall & Spring)
  8. Completes all mandatory training and participates in a minimum of two professional development each year.
  9. Performs other duties assigned.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work flexible hours to include some nights and weekends.
  • Work will be performed in an office environment with a significant amount of public contact, in person, by telephone, via email, and various communication platforms.
  • The position may require up to 30% of the work week to be performed outside of regular working hours. Some travel may be required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Duties require extended periods of sitting, talking, and listening.
  • Duties require extensive use of computers, telephones, and other office equipment.
  • Requires possible lifting of up to 25 lbs. (If an object weights more than 45 lbs., OSU-Oklahoma City requires this to be a two-person lift).
