Site Description: St. Mary's General Hospital is a 197-bed adult acute-care facility located in Kitchener, Ontario and a member of the St. Joseph's Health System. It specializes in cardiac care, respiratory care, outpatient surgery, general medicine, and 24/7 emergency services. The hospital has a strong reputation for patient-centered care and is home to the Regional Cardiac Care Centre. With a workforce of approximately 2,000 staff, physicians, and volunteers, St. Mary's offers a collaborative and dynamic healthcare environment.
Position Details:
Position: Full-Time Security Guard Site: St Mary's General Hospital Address: 911 Queen's Blvd, Kitchener, ON N2M 1B2\ Hours: Continental Rotating (1900-0700/0700-1900 hrs) Pay Rate: $19.78/hr.
Averaging Agreement: Overtime is Averaging Agreement (AA) after 88 hours

Schedule Example:
- Week 1 - Days - Mon-Tues, Fri-Sat
- Week 2 - Days - Sun, Wed-Thu
- Week 3 - Nights - Mon-Tues, Fri-Sat
- Week 4 - Nights - Sun, Wed-Thu
- Patrol Hospital Grounds: Conduct regular rounds of hospital premises, including parking areas, hallways, patient rooms, entrances, and exits, to ensure the safety and security of the site.
- Monitor Surveillance Systems: Operate security cameras and alarm systems, ensuring any suspicious activity is reported immediately to the appropriate authorities.
- Access Control: Monitor and control entry points to the hospital, ensuring that only authorized individuals are allowed access to restricted areas.
- Respond to Emergencies: Act quickly in emergency situations, such as medical emergencies, fire alarms, or security threats. Assist hospital staff as needed during crises and evacuations.
- Provide Customer Service: Greet and assist visitors, patients, and hospital staff. Provide directions and ensure that guests adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
- Conflict Resolution: De-escalate tense situations, resolve conflicts, and ensure that all interactions are handled calmly and professionally.
- Report Writing: Document daily activities, incidents, or accidents accurately. Complete reports on incidents, breaches, and security concerns.
- Collaboration with Hospital Staff: Work closely with hospital staff and local law enforcement to provide a coordinated security effort and ensure the safety of all parties involved.
- Enforce Hospital Policies: Ensure that hospital policies, including visitor and patient protocols, are followed. Address any violations in a manner that upholds hospital safety standards
- First Aid CPR - Level C Certification
- A Valid Ontario Security Guard License
- Vulnerable Sector Check
- Valid Immunization Record including: MMR, Varicella, & 2 Step TB Skin Tests
- Proficient in English (both oral and written)
- Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred
- Degree in Police Foundations, Protection Security and Investigations, Criminology, or Border Services is an asset
- Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UoF) and Management of Aggressive Behaviour (MOAB)
- Applicants lacking these certifications can opt into Paladin's UoF/MOAB pre-employment certification training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the position
- Please be aware: The UoF/MOAB training is not paid as it is a pre-requisite, however Paladin will cover all of the costs of the training with a 6 month commitment to the position/availability
