Description

Direct the educational activities of the Veterinary Programs. Develop and manage the approved curriculum and design teaching schedule.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Supervise the activities of the veterinary nursing staff.  Evaluate the faculty.  Prepare teaching assignments.
  • Determine, establish and implement veterinary nursing department goals.
  • Consistently monitor student success rates.  Implement plan and meet with students to reduce student withdrawals.  Maintain an 80% student success rate for all classes taught in the program.
  • Monitor expenditures and keep to the department budget.
  • Coordinate and arrange for educational workshops and in services for didactic and clinical faculty.  Prepare didactic instruction to include course and lab objectives.
  • Maintain student grades in accordance with established policies.  Prepare final grades at the end of each sequence to update student records and transcripts.
  • Evaluate the performance of students regarding course objectives and make necessary provisions to meet learning needs.
  • Visit clinical sites to review and evaluate students' clinical performance and progress. Coordinate with site supervisors to ensure clinical education is effective.
  • Develop and maintain a functional curriculum according to approved design.  Evaluate course content and review new texts.  Collaborate with administration in the design and implementation of the veterinary nursing program.
  • Maintain all American Veterinary Medical Association records and prepare annual reports.  Prepare self study reports for necessary accreditation.
  • Perform functions of a Veterinary Nursing instructor. Monitor lab competencies and confirm skill levels on checklists.
  • Plan and conduct department staff and semiannual Advisory Board meetings.
  • Order supplies and maintain equipment as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Graduation from an AVMA accredited Veterinary program recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
  • Three (3) years of occupational (i.e., practical) experience within the veterinary field and/or three (3) years of teaching experience in the veterinary field.
  • Licensed doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM) or a credentialed veterinary technician.
  • Current license, certification or other designation as required by local, state or federal laws to work in the veterinary field. 
  • Leadership or supervisory experience preferred. 
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other computer skills.
