As a Custodian Supervisor I, you will ensure existing facilities are well maintained in a safe manner.

How You Will Impact Education

Instruction/Education Responsibilities

  • Be physically skilled and able to address all types of custodial maintenance issues within the school(s).
  • Facilitate and monitor the following areas of custodian maintenance:
  • General cleaning and deep cleaning, glass and mirrors, floor work (to include carpet, tile, VCT and other hard surfaces), additional items as they arise.
  • Manage Third Party Suppliers and Service Providers
  • Identify & isolate larger problems, meet with contractors, obtain bids.
  • Supervise entire Day and Night Custodial Teams.
  • Track and report status of open projects. Provide historical data for analyzing trends.
  • Track time, mileage, materials, tools.
  • Oversight of special projects, facilitate and troubleshoot ongoing custodial and janitorial issues within schools.
  • Monitor and create estimates, schedules, and timelines for new and existing project deliverables.
  • Travel within and outside the state as the job dictates.
  • Participate, successfully, in the training programs offered to increase the individual's skill and proficiency related to the assignments.
  • Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibility. Follow federal and state laws, as well as company policies.
  • Ensure adherence to OSHA, MSDS and maximum safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as delegated by Assistant Director of Projects & Facilities, Facilities Supervisor.
  • Responsible for ensuring that each Facility is secure (locked) and security system appropriately activated at the end of each night shift.
  • Supervise, manage and/or participate in the setting up and tear down of special events and Facility closing procedures.
  • Must carry hand-held radio at all times while on school property if assigned by a supervisor.
  • Assigned a 30-minute lunch break but the time of the lunch period will be changed accordingly to the school's needs. All Supervisors are required to report and assist with all emergency situations as needed.
  • Supervisor is not allowed to leave campus to run errands (personally or for the school) without permission from their supervisor.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge of custodial/janitorial trade and facilities maintenance requirements including ability to understand, communicate, manage, and deal effectively with vendors, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Supervisory experience in leading work crews and direct oversight of custodial staff. Ability to provide custodial service and facilities maintenance for multiple locations.
  • Strong knowledge and experience understanding custodial services (general and deep cleaning, floor work to include carpet, tile and VCT), cleaning chemicals and cleaning equipment. Ability to perform intermediate level mathematical functions and calculations.
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills, expert in communication, writing, and documentation abilities.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, MSDS, state and local building and fire codes, and inspection processes.
  • Strong time management & organizational skills and the ability to prioritize wisely.
  • Computer knowledge and experience with all Microsoft Office software, ability to manage online documentation of service requests, utilize time and material tracking programs.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish speaking) preferred, but not required.

Job Requirements

  • Education -- minimum high school graduate with continuing education custodian, janitorial or facilities related.
  • Experience -- A minimum of 7 years of custodian related maintenance and/or facilities maintenance experience.
  • Language -- Efficient in English skills including writing and speaking.
  • Special Qualifications --Must possess the above knowledge, skills, and abilities (Skills and Knowledge).
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
