SAIC is seeking an Avionics Engineer to provide engineering and program support to the Level 3 Avionics IPT in NAVAIR's H-60 Multi-Mission Helicopter Program, PMA-299, procuring, integrating, testing and sustaining Communications products for H-60 customers. Examples of relevant products are MUOS, SATURN/TSV/IW, TTAM, ARC-210 Gen5/6, COMSEC/Crypto management and reviews, and SATCOM.
This is a hybrid remote position that requires onsite support weekly in California, MD. It is a temporary role slated to wrap up with a contract ending October 2025.
This position also supports the government IPTs responsibility for overseeing tasks performed by contracted entities and outside agencies. This position functionally reports to the Level 3 IPT lead, platform Class Desk and Chief Engineer via the Level 3 IPT lead. The Level 3 IPT Lead assigns daily systems tasking.
The selected applicant will collect, complete, organize and interpret engineering technical data relating to aircraft communications systems, acquisition and product programs. Performs various engineering tasks related to the development, operation, evaluation, and improvement of communications systems supportability and/or maintainability programs and product technical evaluation and identification of communications system program and engineering requirements and resources. Collects, compiles, analyzes, investigates, researches, or applies systems engineering data and information.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in recurring IPT status meetings providing engineering recommendations and technical evaluation of topics under discussion.
- Participate in contractor led Systems Engineering Technical Reviews (SETR) of new development product designs, and in Technical Information Meetings as the IPTL's engineering representative.
- Facilitates IPT reviews of vendor recommended/proposed Engineering Change Proposals and resulting technical directives.
- Coordinates engineering data consolidation in support of Interim Flight Clearance requirements and facilitates their review by NAVAIR Technical Area Experts (TAEs).
- Conducts government level review of vendor specification documents ensuring compliance with government and industry standards.
- Conducts government level review of vendor Notice of Quality Escapement for out-of-specification impacts to aircraft and systems operation, provides recommendations for waiver or variance status.
- Participates and provides technical input to engineering investigations into root cause analysis for equipment failures.
- Responds to action items assigned by IPT lead or Engineering leadership relative to platform Communications work.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Electrical Engineering Degree with five (5) years focused communications systems engineering, systems architecture and design. A combination of background, education, ant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- ACTIVE Secret security clearance is required. Interim may be considered.
- Prior civilian or military aviation background (operator or maintainer) with Communications Systems, on H-60 Romeo's, will significantly aid in performing the duties for this role.
Desired Qualifications:
- Completion of International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) or Expert Systems Engineering Professional (ESEP) certification is a very significant plus.
- Documented experience in writing and evaluation engineering technical papers (white papers, point papers, etc.)
- Completion of Defense Acquisition University (DAU) Courseware in the Level I & II Engineering Core Certification Standard Curriculum is required. (DAWIA certification is not applicable).
- Master of Science in Systems Engineering
- Prior military or civilian exposure to the NAVAIR command structure.
- Prior understanding of principles and structure of military aircraft.
Target salary range: $120,001 - $160,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
