SAIC is seeking an Electronic Technician to support the US Navy in Indianapolis, IN.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Supports engineering activities such as design, test, checkout, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems, experimental design circuitry, laser/light transmission devices or specialized test equipment.
- Applications may include electronic circuits, photonics and logic systems.
- Works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout and trouble-shooting functions.
- Assists in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions.
- Collects, maintains, organizes, compiles, and manipulates technical data.
- Prepares engineering documentation, reports, drawings (sketches/flow charts/diagrams/schematics, etc.).
- Performs mathematical calculations per engineering specifications.
- Undertakes analyses of data where guidelines are provided.
JOB DUTIES:
- Assembles, disassembles, reworks, and repairs surface mount (including J-leaded devices, 0402 or smaller devices, fine pitch, BGA, etc.) and through-hole printed circuit card assemblies, flex circuits, sub-assemblies, and electro-mechanical assemblies.
- Performs board and component preparation, including specialized handling of sensitive components.
- Performs highly skilled soldering and desoldering of fine pitch components, including BGA rework.
- Executes modifications, upgrades, and component replacement on complex PCBs.
- Interprets process routings, wiring diagrams, and similar production planning documents or drawings.
- May assemble cabinets, chassis, consoles, or similar devices and install them with electronic or electro-mechanical equipment.
- Performs informal, self in-process checks on manufactured items prior to submitting to authorize formal inspection and/or test personnel for determining product validation and final acceptance.
- May assist other related job classifications when directed.
- Collects and analyzes data for Statistical Process Control (SPC).
Qualifications
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND CLEARANCE:
- AA Degree in related discipline and three (3) years' experience. Additional years' experience accepted in lieu of a degree.
- Six (6) years of practical experience, to include: electronics repair, maintenance, and testing preferred.
- Formal Military electronics training from: Technical School, or Class A or B military school in electronics or communications preferred.
- Deep understanding of electronic component identification and handling, including ESD precautions.
- Ability to read and interpret complex process routings, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Knowledge of and experience with IPC standards, especially IPC-7711 (Rework Procedures).
- Familiarity with IPC - 610, and J-STD-001 is preferred.
- Understanding of basic electronics, including electronic component identification.
- Ability to work from routing instructions and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics.
- Candidate must be a US Citizen and have the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance.
- Physical and other requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Good eyesight and ability to distinguish color.
- May require sitting, standing, kneeling, or squatting for extended periods.
- May be exposed to solvents, flux, thinners, and other cleaning compounds.
- Requires the use of visual aids (magnification lenses, binocular microscopes) and specific personal safety equipment.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
- Prior military experience with the assembly, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, installation, and checkout of electronic equipment.
- Prior experience with maintaining, troubleshooting Avionic systems integrated into military aircraft armament systems & variants.
