SAIC is seeking a Journeyman Network Administrator in Colorado Springs, CO who will provide network infrastructure expertise to the organization, focusing heavily on Cisco and Juniper routing, switching, and security platforms. The incumbent ensures the secure, reliable operation of the network backbone, translating technical directives, firewall requests, and security findings into concrete network actions. This position requires solid hands-on experience in managing enterprise network hardware, monitoring network traffic, and swiftly remediating connectivity or configuration issues across diverse vendor environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Network Operations & Maintenance. Configures, maintains, and troubleshoots Cisco (IOS/NX-OS) and Juniper (Junos) routers, switches, and firewalls to ensure high availability and secure data transmission.
  • Security & Vulnerability Response. Analyzes and implements network-focused security tasks and Information Assurance Vulnerability Management (IAVM) directives; assesses exposure, applies firmware updates or ACL changes, and reports compliance.
  • Firewall & Perimeter Management. Manages access control lists (ACLs), virtual private networks (VPNs), and perimeter defense configurations in alignment with security policies and zero-trust guidelines.
  • Network Telemetry & Logging. Ensures that network devices are properly forwarding syslog, NetFlow, and SNMP data to centralized security monitoring and SIEM systems; works with security administrators to resolve collection gaps.
  • Incident Support. Acts as a primary responder for network-related outages or technical incidents; conducts packet-level analysis and troubleshooting, implementing containment or routing changes as required.
  • Documentation. Maintains accurate network topology diagrams, configuration backups, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) suitable for enterprise accreditation and audits.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 4–6 years of network administration experience in an enterprise or DoD environment.
  • Demonstrated practical experience managing and configuring Cisco and Juniper hardware, including routing protocols (BGP, OSPF) and switching technologies (VLANs, STP).
  • Working knowledge of network security principles, firewall administration, and packet analysis.
  • Experience responding to formal technical tasking and vulnerability directives.
  • DoD 8570/8140 certification at [IAT Level II] or higher (e.g., Security+ CE), current at time of placement.
  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance.

Desired Qualifications

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Juniper Networks Certified Associate (JNCIA).
  • Experience with network automation and scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible) for at-scale configuration management.
  • Familiarity with centralized logging and network telemetry analysis tools.

 

Target salary range: $80,001 - $120,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
