Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) is seeking an experienced Senior Cyber Firewall Engineer to join our team in support of a major state and local government client. The Senior Cyber Firewall Engineer will play a critical role in the implementation, configuration, and ongoing administration of network firewalls and web applications firewalls (WAF), ensuring robust security of network infrastructure. This role demands a comprehensive understanding of firewall and web applications firewalls technologies and network security principles, with demonstrable expertise in Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet solutions, and Strata Cloud/Panorama management platforms. This position reports to the Technical Director as the primary technical engineer and architect responsible for firewalls and web applications firewalls implementation and maintenance. 

Essential duties of this position include:

• Design, implement, and manage network firewall/web application firewall infrastructure, with a focus on Palo Alto, Fortinet, and Strata Cloud/Panorama solutions.
  
• Monitor firewall/web application firewall performance and security measures to ensure optimal operation.
  
• Configure and maintain firewall rules, VPNs, and security policies.
  
• Designing, implementing, and managing WAF solutions to protect web applications from various threats and vulnerabilities. 
  
• Configure, manage and optimize network firewalls, network intrusion detection and prevention system (IDS/IPS), virtualized firewalls.
  
• Implement and operate DMZs, web application firewalls, reverse and forward proxies.
  
• Configure security logging, establish logging baselines for security events and assist in implementation of security event detection through SIEM.
  
• Conduct regular firewall audits and assessments to identify and mitigate potential vulnerabilities.
  
• Troubleshoot and resolve firewall-related issues and incidents.
  
• Collaborate with other IT and security teams to develop and enforce network security policies and procedures.
  
• Stay current with the latest firewall technologies and trends, as well as security threats and vulnerabilities.
  
• Provide documentation and technical support for firewall configurations and changes.
  
• Assist in the development and maintenance of disaster recovery plans related to firewall infrastructure.
  
• Participate in on-call rotation and respond to network security incidents as needed.

Qualifications

Required Education and Qualifications: 

• BS Degree and 5+ years of experience required; 7+ years of experience is highly preferred or Masters and 3+ years of experience required; 5+ years of experience highly preferred.
  
• 3-7 years of experience configuring, managing, and troubleshooting firewalls/web application firewalls and related security technologies.
  
• Relevant vendor certifications or security certifications like CompTIA Security+, Certified Ethical Hacker
• (CEH), CISSP, or GIAC are preferred. 
  
• Candidates must pass a CJIS background check. Citizenship required

Required Experience:

• Experience in supporting a large, complex IT environment
  
• Demonstrated experience in using tools and techniques to monitor, detect, investigate, and respond to threats within network traffic. 
  
• Preferred Experience in Cloud Architecture – be able to create/validate architecture designs in various
• Cloud Platforms (AWS, Azure) Commercial and Gov
  
• Real world experience and working knowledge of FEDRAMP, NIST 800-53 controls, System Security
• Plan (SSP), and CIS hardening baselines.  
  
• The ideal candidate will have extensive infrastructure experience including solution design; experience translating business requirements and objectives into IT strategy; and experience with one or more
• frameworks for best practice service delivery including ITIL v4 and TOGAF. 

Preferred Experience:  

• Experience in supporting State or Local Government IT environments
  
• Experience with Microsoft Sentinel or a competing SIEM product
  
• Experience with configuring and managing EDR and/or XDR, CrowdStrike or SentinelOne
  
• 5 years technical and/or management experience supported industry and/or Government Sector cloud initiatives at an enterprise level.
  
• ITIL v4 certification preferred (Foundation or above)
  
• Preferred hands-on experience with ManageEngine, ServiceNow, Palo Alto Firewalls, and Vectra AI

Target salary range: $80,001 - $120,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
