Description

Description

SAIC is seeking a chip firmware Engineer. Come join our team working on the next generation SoC design for the Department of Defense and IC. We are working on an exciting opportunity with the Defense Innovation Unit to build a novel low SWaP form factor that leads to a large JADC2 market with embedded machine learning and advanced processing.

The responsibilities for this position include processor SW development in the following areas: assembly, instruction set implementations, low level 'C', and compiler debug and development.  You will be involved in processor architecture and design activities that support custom hardware development and integration activities.  In this role, you will join a dynamic team that is singularly focused on providing world class solutions to our customers in an exciting, collaborative, and inclusive atmosphere.

As a software leader you will architect, design, build, and enhance highly available and scalable system software used by customers worldwide. You will direct major deliverables of projects through all aspects of the software development lifecycle including scope and work estimation, architecture and design, coding and unit testing. In all cases, you will determine and recommend the best designs based on customer business objectives, timelines and other resource constraints.

  • Experience with verilog in a FPGA or chip RTL environment is a strong plus.
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle, working within broadly defined parameters on large, complex embedded systems.
  • Own the delivery of an entire piece of a system or application, and serve as a technical lead on medium to large, complex embedded software projects.
  • Break down large tasks into smaller tasks that can be executed by the rest of the development team.
  • Work closely with other engineers to develop the best technical design and approach for new product development.
  • Build software solutions where the solution is not always well defined but always considers the customer first.
  • Mentor other engineers in the art of building complex, web scale systems.
  • Resolve roadblocks for the development team, working collaboratively with the Product Owner, technical leadership, and other engineers.
  • Plan and estimate development tasks and work to improve performance metrics.
  • Operate as a software leader and as a senior level individual contributor.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • US Citizenship and an active DoD Secret clearance.
  • Bachelor's Degree and 14 years of experience; Master's and 12 years of experience.
  • Hands-on expertise with microelectronics and embedded programming in ‘C' and/or assembly.
  • Desired experience in higher level languages such as Java, C/C++ and object oriented programming a plus.
  • Experience delivering an entire piece of a system or application.
  • Experience with a version control system (e.g., Git, RCS, Clearcase, SVN).
  • Proficiency with multiple real-time operating systems (LynxOs, VxWorks, Greenhills, etc.).

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience serving as a technical lead.
  • Deep understanding of software design patterns.
  • Working knowledge of Agile Development and continuous integration and continuous delivery methodologies and tools.
  • Experience with an issue/problem tracking system (e.g., Jira, GitLab, GitHub, Rally, Azure Boards, Planview).
  • Strong knowledge of low level Linux (static & dynamically loaded) driver development.
  • Strong knowledge of embedded software development using ‘C' to modify Linux OS and custom Linux software threads.

SAIC accepts applications on an ongoing basis and there is no deadline.
