SAIC is seeking a highly skilled and experienced System Engineer (Subject Matter Expert) to join our dynamic team supporting the FBI Infrastructure Services and Back Office Support for the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of networking principles and a proven track record of managing and optimizing network infrastructures. The System Engineer (SME) will apply their expertise to design, maintain, and troubleshoot LAN/WAN networks while ensuring secure and efficient operations. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Apply TCP/IP Routing and Switching Principles: Utilize Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) routing and switching principles to develop practical solutions for network infrastructure. 

  • Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: Perform multi-level troubleshooting to identify root causes of network issues and implement effective solutions. 

  • LAN/WAN Design and Topology: Configure, maintain, and upgrade Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) designs and topologies to ensure optimal performance. 

  • Hardware Installation and Configuration: Install and configure LAN/WAN hardware, maintain wiring closets, and adhere to network nomenclature standards. 

  • Hardware Management: Manage Cisco and other hardware, including consumer-grade routers and switches, to ensure reliable network operations. 

  • Network Monitoring: Utilize standard network management and packet analysis tools to monitor network performance and identify potential issues. 

  • Perimeter Security and Firewalling: Plan, implement, and administer perimeter security measures and firewall configurations to protect network integrity. 

  • Technology Evaluation and Recommendations: Evaluate new technologies and provide design recommendations to enhance network efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) Enterprise Infrastructure: Required certification demonstrating advanced networking skills and knowledge. 

  • Experience: Two to five years of experience with firewall configuration and load balancing, with a strong understanding of network protocols including TCP/IP, User Datagram Protocol (UDP), and other common protocols. 

  • Routing Protocol Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) and Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP). 

  • VPN Design and Configuration: Comprehensive understanding of Virtual Private Network (VPN) design and configuration. 

  • Troubleshooting and Connectivity: Expert-level ability to troubleshoot and resolve TCP/IP connectivity issues. 

  • Agile Methodologies: Experience working in an Agile organization, familiar with Scrum, Extreme Programming (XP), Kanban, and Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) practices. 

  • Clearance: Must posess an active Top Secret clearance.
  • Education and total experience: Bachelors and nine (9) years of experience or Masters and seven (7) years of experience.
