The General Manager holds a key leadership position with Savage. You will partner with our customers in solving their most difficult challenges by creating innovative solutions that exceed our customer's expectations. The successful candidate will lead the petroleum coke supply chain at the Marathon Refinery in Detroit, Michigan. This includes the in-plant cutting and handling operation along with the transportation operation that delivers the coke to various destinations in the region. These operations consist of specialized teams that plan, organize, and manage supply chain activities in a safe, environmentally friendly, and efficient manner.

Here is what you will be doing
- Lead Safety and operations across multiple locations
- Building and supporting a high-functioning team
- Understand our customer's needs and serve those needs
- Managing the financial aspect of the Savage System (Budget, Projections, Dailies, & Variances)
- Providing active leadership to both Team Members and Management by developing them in the following areas:
- Problem-Solving and Decision Making
- Cross-functional Communication
- Safety and Environmental Compliance
- Compliance with Operational Processes and Procedures
- Customer Relations
- Professionalism and Cleanliness
- Ensuring our team is effectively communicating with existing customers as well as our development team in their pursuit of new opportunities

- Understanding of logistics, utilization of equipment and people to meet customer service expectations
- Lead the Savage S7 Delivery System and train all levels of leadership on S7
- Oversee and mentor the financial aspect of the Savage System (Budgets, Projections, Dailies & Variances)
- Understand and implement the Savage Safety Program
- Understands the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the USW
- Negotiate Collective Bargaining Agreements with the USW
- Availability to work weekends and holidays (operation runs 7 days per week, 24 hours per day)
- Other duties as assigned

Requirements of a Successful General Manager
- 5 years + experience Savage Leadership experience
- Thorough understanding of contracts and MSAs
- Occasional travel may be required
- Understands maintenance of equipment and the Savage Maintenance Program CMMS Program (ManagerPlus)
- Understands or is willing and able to learn safe DOT operations
- Computer skills: data entry, email, preparing and reviewing reports
- Must pass a pre-employment physical, reference checks, drug screen, motor vehicle report, and criminal background check
- Must qualify for and possess a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC card)
- Must be able to attend and pass all tests associated with job-related coursework. This includes, but is not limited to OSHA, HazMat, and FRA-related courses
- Typically work Monday thru Friday (~45 hours/week)
- 3 to 5 years operating in an industrial environment
- Bachelor's degree or above preferred but not required
- A high school diploma, or equivalent required
- Current/valid driver's license
