The Multicraft technician Maintains, repairs, design and calibrates building systems, plant equipment, electronic and computer based devices: rebuilds, installs and programs process control equipment.   Design, program and configure data management systems to collect process and store information.  Install, troubleshoot, repair, and upgrade electronic computer-controlled mechanical systems, such as robotic machines.  Ensures the safe and effective operation of all plant equipment. Work with Leaders and fellow partners to ensure Food Safety and Partner Safety. Understand and execute standard operating procedures relative to position. Perform all PCP and CCP checks required for position. Follow reaction plan for Food Safety, Food Quality and customer requirement outages by contacting TA/TL. Ramsey Testing--Candidate must successfully score a Level 2 Mechanical or Electrical and Level 1 in the opposite. (ie; Level 2 Mechanical & Level 1 Electrical or Level 1 Mechanical and Level 2 Electrical) 

 

 

Technician Levels & Electives: Mechanic 

Level 1 – Intermediate technician requiring abilities to safely perform basic maintenance activities and general machine operations as directed or assigned. May be required to train operators in areas of expertise or in general equipment care and operation of equipment. 

Level 2 – Experienced technician with abilities to independently perform, document, and train others in areas of expertise on maintenance activities as assigned. Can apply learned skills and utilize tools to improve equipment reliability. 

Technician Levels & Electives: Electronic Technician 

Level 1 – Intermediate technician requiring abilities to safely perform basic maintenance activities and general machine operations as directed or assigned.  May be required to train operators in areas of expertise or in general equipment care and operation of equipment. 

Level 2 – Experienced technician with abilities to independently perform, document, and train others in areas of expertise on maintenance activities as assigned.  Can apply learned skills and utilize tools to improve equipment reliability. 

 

Electives – Electives are specialty areas that a partner may develop advanced skills. Electives may be requested or required based on the skills and interests of the mechanic in areas that fulfill company needs or requirements. Partners proficient in certain electives may be asked to train others in those areas, and will be assigned work requiring the elective skill set. Most positions require general proficiency at level 1 for elective areas. 

Essential Functions:  

Perform all process CP, CCP, QP, and CQP checks required for the position. Follow reaction plans for Food Safety, Food Quality and customer requirement deviations.  Be able to identify and understand customer requirements and assist in assuring proper production operation.   

Must follow Good Manufacturing Practices and good housekeeping guidelines.  Must follow safety guidelines, wear designated Personal Protective Equipment, conform to regulatory requirements and assure Food Safety measures are followed. 

The Technician performs maintenance work within the allocation of time needed to complete.  All work performed and parts used will be documented in the CMMS. 

Conducts troubleshooting and repair activities. 

Responsible for logging all work into the Work Order system with amount of time spent and specific location accurately documented. 

Maintains updated programs of all Logic and Motion Controllers, while working with contractors and other technicians. 

Modify programs as necessary for production and energy efficient processes.  Create new programs and patterns to meet customer requirements. 

Work with Engineering and IS Team to keep all programmable software updated and add new software as technology advances. 

Maintains, repairs, design and calibrates electronic devices: rebuilds and installs electronic equipment. 

Ensure up time of equipment by performing preventive maintenance and repairs on plant equipment. 

Maintains, troubleshoots and repairs equipment in area of assignment (Includes maintaining equipment, safety devices and the use of proper safety procedures while troubleshooting, or repairing equipment). 

Maintains, installs, troubleshoots, repairs and upgrades electronic computer-controlled mechanical systems, such as Fanuc robots and Fanuc integrated vision systems (iRVision) 

Insures equipment is safe to operate, which includes proper safety considerations have been addressed when developing equipment control programs. 

Maintain all plant equipment to include gearboxes, hoists and other complex equipment used in the plant.   

Responsible for completing all necessary electronic PM's, Work orders and parts usage using the eAM system.   

Responsible for the housekeeping in area of assignment in production and maintenance departments. 

Other duties as assigned by TA/TL. 

 

 

EXPERIENCE: 

Three years' experience in an Industrial maintenance setting.  Perform all of the job duties of an Electrical, Production, and Maintenance Technician.  Hands on experience in installation and electronic troubleshooting of process loops and programming to include computer-controlled robotics equipment. 

 

 

3 years or more of industrial maintenance experience as a requirement. 

 

Have advanced PLC programming skills – with emphasis in the following: 

Allen Bradley – Panelview, Data Highway Plus, PLC and Control View. 

Knowledge of PLC control/program design with focus on troubleshooting technics, programming and integration skills. 

Process control loop design. 

Utilize structured programming approach. 

Knowledge of interfaces to graphic display systems or Data Highway Plus, would be helpful. 

Knowledge of interfaces between robotics and other computer based PLC industrial processes and controls.    

 

 

SKILLS 

Demonstrate ability to use PLC's and GML for troubleshooting purposes. 

Read, comprehend and follow complex trouble-shooting instructions and identify parts from equipment maintenance manuals. 

A working knowledge in operating and maintaining volt-ohm meter, oscilloscope, chart recorder and miscellaneous shop equipment. 

Fanuc robot and Fanuc integrated vision system (iRVision) programming experience preferred. 

Ability to operate air compressor.    

Basic Mechanical skills required. 

Ability to weld stainless steel. (TIG) 

Ability to develop an excellent working relationship with fellow partners and with other plant departments.   

Ability to test run equipment in all production and production support departments. 

Must walk or stand 75% of time to include working off of ladder or lying on floor to access equipment components. 

 Ability to operate power material handling equipment. 

 Must be able to follow oral and written instructions. 

Ability to use computer aided drafting hardware and software as required to develop electrical sketches and drawings. 

Ability to perform trouble-shooting on heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment. 

Must be able to work around ammonia systems, acid systems, steam systems, high voltage, and know the safeguards against being accidentally exposed to fumes, live steam, and/or electrical shock. 

Must know basic electricity and electronics including three-phase and single-phase controls, ladder diagrams, low-voltage relay logic, digital and analog electronics, microprocessors, single line diagrams, electrical schematics and power distributions. 

The ability to communicate with leadership, vendors, contractors, other maintenance partners, line operators via phone, fax, email, text, and person-to-person.   

Overtime can be expected if the workload requires it.  Scheduling will be performed in accordance to plant scheduling policy. 

The position will require continuous advancement of technical knowledge and skills.  Applicants must demonstrate success in training courses, and will be expected to actively participate in assigned or elected training courses to refresh fundamental skills and match technology needs within the company. 

The position will require the ability to multi-task and the ability to shift priorities quickly 

Testing Required - Applicants must pass the company's testing requirements and local plant tests for Multicraft Technician positions.
