Position Purpose:

To monitor, coordinate, audit and assist in QA and Sanitation efforts throughout the plant to ensure quality and food safety.  QA Technician is responsible for completing laboratory support activities and SPS functions within a team based structure.  Work centers around analytical, microbiological, organoleptic testing of ingredients, and finished product and to verify compliance with customer, regulatory and SFI specifications and guidelines; environmental testing of process equipment and plant areas and process audits to ensure compliance with regulatory and SFI requirements; standardizing incoming milk to ensure final product analytical criteria outlined in CFR Standards of Identity and customer specifications is met; process equipment sanitation/CIP.

Work with Leaders and fellow partners to ensure Food Safety and Partner Safety. Understand and execute standard operating procedures relative to position. Perform all PCP and CCP checks required for position. Follow reaction plan for Food Safety, Food Quality and customer requirement deviations.  Be able to identify and understand customer requirements and assist in assuring proper operation and product.  Record accurate data on quality reports.

Essential Functions:

Sanitation – QA Technician required to complete assigned cleaning tasks; set up equipment for and complete CIP (Clean in Place), and perform pre-operation inspections per SFI, regulatory and, sanitation guidelines.  Monitor CIP temperatures, flows, and chemical strengths and sign off on completed CIPs.  QA Technician is required to follow SFI standards regarding the 7 step cleaning program. They will work with chemicals; foam equipment with various chemicals, use a brush with chemical to manually clean product lines over head or under equipment; climb stairs/ladders; manually apply pressure of 80 to 100 foot-pounds using upper body strength and bending and twisting wrist while using pipe wrench to tighten and loosen product line connections; manually tighten clamps on line connections bending and twisting hand and wrist; lift 20 pounds floor level; work in temperatures up to 105 degrees F and below 40 degrees F. QA Technician required to read and follow  written Standard Operating Procedures and work schedule. 

Milk Standardization – QA Technician responsible for operating standardization equipment and IR analyzer; coordinating standardization schedule with UDA and RGB Partners to ensure milk volume and analyticals meet production schedule requirements and SFI product formula specifications. Electronically receive and record ingredients including milk and cream from suppliers into oracle and verify the recorded information is accurate. Analyze standardized milk to ensure SFI product formula guidelines and finished product analyticals meets criteria outlined in CFR Standards of Identity, SFI, and customer specifications. Test incoming milk and cream to ensure compliance with SFI ingredient specification requirements.  Job tasks require technician to lift 10 pounds shoulder level, work with chemicals, climb stairs, lift 20 pounds floor level, work in temperatures up to 105 degrees F. QA Technician required to read written Standard Operating Procedures and work schedule.

Product Analysis –Responsible for analytical and organoleptic testing of product to ensure compliance with SFI and regulatory guidelines; work with Leadership in notification and disposition of product that falls outside SFI specification guidelines; maintain and calibrate lab testing equipment, work with chemicals, chemical reagent make up, and aseptic sampling/testing.  Required to work with chemicals, read and follow written Standard Operating Procedures, determine color change during testing, use hand to squeeze product into pans for analysis, climb stairs, bend, crouch, and aseptically sample barrels of finished product requiring technician to manually push and twist sample plug from barrel of product, ensure SFI Hold/Release guidelines are met for non-conforming product. 

Audits– Pre-Op Swabs and inspections, Special Cause Cleanup, Air Quality in packaging rooms and surrounding areas.  Job tasks require technician to work in temperatures up to 105 degrees F and read/follow written Standard Operating Procedures.

Data Entry – QA Technician is responsible for entering data for raw ingredient, work in progress items, and finished product analysis into Oracle, excel, EQMS or other SFI specific programs as well as validation that data has been accurately recorded.  Job task requires technician to enter data into Oracle, RMCS, Excel, and EQMS programs using PC and keyboard.

Non-Essential Functions: (Occasional duties not included above.)

Utilize Process Excellence tools to improve plant performance and complete specific projects as directed by Department Team Leaders.

Continuously work to improve productivity, reduce raw material waste, and increase product quality.

Work to improve unsafe and unsanitary conditions throughout the plant.

Other duties assigned by leadership.
